It can definitely be done, but you wouldn't want to live there.

Lots of places in the mid west. Depends what your looking for.

Expect to commute a ways.

There are plenty of places in the Midwest. The problem is you wouldn't want to live in those neighborhoods.

from BJungNan’s post...”Once it is paid off, you can live in a nice house for a couple hundred a month for the taxes.”

I think BJungNan said once the house is PAID OFF...then ‘you can live in a nice house for a couple of hundred a month FOR THE TAXES’...

...didn’t mean the ‘house payment’ or mortgage payment was a couple of hundred, just the tax payments after house is paid off. oops.....

I've done it. Of course, the house was just a modest little house.

You can get 1000 sq ft condos here in greensboro for $350-400/month with 20% down at 6%. Or 1200 sq ft townhomes for around $600 (excluding taxes of course)

My house is worth about $275,000 now and my mortgage payment is around $550.00 a month (not including tax/ins)...15 year mortgage. Can’t wait till I’m paid off!! I won’t have to worry about rent or mortgage the rest of my life after that. It’s a secure feeling.

Don’t know about the house payment part of under $500 a month but once it is paid off the taxes is around $200 a month.

For houses with payments under $500 a month, you might try near Erie, PA or Cleveland, OH.
