September 21, 2007 -- ALBANY - Illegal immigrants will be able to obtain driver's licenses under a controversial new policy to be announced today by Gov. Spitzer, The Post has learned.
Under the change, the Department of Motor Vehicles will no longer require applicants provide Social Security numbers or proof that they are eligible for Social Security cards, a source said.

Henceforth I will no longer accept a New York State license as proof of identity.
Being from New York, this really upsets me since many of the 9/11 highjackers got drivers licenses and IDs from multiple states with no proof of legal status.
Peter, I think that is a GREAT idea. IDs given under these circumstances are meaningless.

I did do a search under the NY Post headline and “NY Governor,” but obviously failed to use the Putz’ last name.
Still...the other thread was posted in the late morning; I suspect lots of folks were busy earning a living at that time and may not have heard the news, so it’s not all bad.
