"Of course there is nothing in the Constitution that says anything about a woman having a right to kill her unborn child."

>>>>>Which is perhaps why Fred Thompson is opposed to making it illegal?

Your lack of knowledge is astounding. Fred Thompson believes Roe v Wade is bad law and should be overturned. Period. Btw, you ought to read the Constitution and get informed. Specifically these two parts:

Amendment 10
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

That means abortion is a states rights issue. This idea goes back to the beginning of the nation. The Framers/Founders called it Federalism. Something most conservatives and candidate Fred Thompson support. Now, if you want a Reagan style Human Rights amendment added to the Constitution --- which I would support --- you'll have to go through a process that is outlined in the Constitution itself. A process that has been successful only 17 times in our history.

Article V
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

That doesn't make abortion illegal. And I noted that Fred Thompson opposes making it illegal. And he does. He has openly says he doesn't want prosecution brought against women who murder their children--only making it illegal to medically perform an abortion. In other words, it's not the murder he's concerned about. He just doesn't want a board-certified physician assisting in the process. I'm not sure what sense that makes. It's not a pro-life argument. If abortion is murder, it should be treated as such. If a fetus is a living human, it should be treated as such and granted all of the protections granted under the Constitution.

Well, given my ASTOUNDING lack of knowlege, I obviously would never refer to the 14th Amendment, would I?

"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law"

So actually, reading that 14th amendment, it's looking the Constitution is saying that the states don't really have any say whatsoever regarding abortion. If you want to call yourself Pro-Life.

Regarding your other point, that's all fine, well, and good. But I do believe the President has a pretty big say in the direction that policy is determined in this country. If the President wants to steer the nation towards a particular reform, he can very well do it. Particularly when his party is in power. That's the political reality of the beast.

But what do I know. My lack of knowlege is "astounding."
