You do good work.
I just copy and paste :)
You are far too modest. I bet your skirt goes to your ankles. LOL
“After all, hes an actor, so maybe he was just playing the part of being McCains biggest supporter.”
Might get interesting around here if Fred picks McCain for a running mate ;)
Even further.
I was thinking that too. Fred did work for McCain’s election campaign.
LOL!
Tom Tancredo said it best: “The next President needs to be someone the terrorists will FEAR”....no one else fills those shoes other than Hunter!
He was co-chairman of McCain’s campaign, along with our buddy Hagel.
He did say it well. I’m sure they would fear Tanc as well, he’s a little twitchy. But he might also have another breakdown like the one that kept him out of Vietnam.
Yuppers!!!
George Will pointed out in his column two weeks back that these things have been illegal since the 1940s. What CFR did was go after independent political groups for the 'crime' of speaking out on issues that might impact elections.
Freedom Works. Socialism, regulation, and taxation don't. This was an anti-freedom bill.
“The fact that his intentions, as mentioned in this thread already may have been noble”
Hogwash. There is NOTHING noble in attacking freedom and free speech. Nothing. we knew up front this was an attack on free speech. What we didnt know until later was that the whole ‘groundswell’ for campaign finance reform was a bogus astroturf issue, that liberal foundations like Pew Trust spent hundreds of millions on a campaign to make it happen. That is the real scandal, how corrupt rich foundations perverted our laws to undermine our freedoms. We as a party have to unite AGAINST this kind of nonsense.
CFR was just another example, like immigration-amnesty and taxes, where enough RINOs act as handmaidens for a Democr*p policy to ruin it for everyone. Shame on McCain and Thompson for supporting CFR, and shame on Bush for caving and signing it.
For all the NRA folks there is something in the CFR that also effects the gun laws does anyone have a complete copy of this CFR?
This is an insight into an elected official (ie, Sen.Fred Thompson) in working towards a law that protects Incumbency. Not just the Repubs, but all the bums who have been in Congress forever. Interesting that Fred worked so hard for this, and then he took himself out of the game. Gotta wonder. Maybe he has been fighting cancer for longer than we know.
It is something about the 1st amendment that hinder the NRA in the McCain-Feingold-Thompson CFR Bill the effects free speech on defending Gun owners!
It’s a long read, but can be found in the congressional record.
“Im not fond of policy wonks, but hes a little too lightweight even for me.”
What are our options though?
Romney is a great policy wonk, he’s got 65 pages of strategy and positions:
http://www.mittromney.com/Issue-Watch/Strategy
... but although he’s running as a Reagan-style conservative now, he’s not trusted as a conservative due to past statements/positions.
Rudy and McCain are far worse than Thompson on the issues. Budget, taxes, immigration, social issues - they are all wrong.
And the rest of the candidates are single-digit wonders, going nowhere. Even the best fo them, Hunter, is barely a blip in the polls.
I think Thompson deserves to be raked over the coals thoroughly over this, but McCain, Romney and Rudy all have been wobbly on this issue too. OTOH, the FredHeads that act as if Thompson is Mr Perfect and therefore if he’s for something, it can’t be that bad ... yikes, that “lemmings jumping off a cliff” behavior scares me.
“Frankly, CFR is not much worse than all the other labyrinth of campaign finance laws preceeding it, with one MAJOR exception. The curtailment of free speech 30 days before a primary and 60 days before a general. This is not some gee it did not work out well type thing. The NRA and Christian groups and most conservatives were howling at these restrictions. Fred supported them knowing full well what they did. He cosponsored not only the whole bill and helped draft it, he specifically cosponsored that language on the issue ads.”
Nail hits head - EXACTLY.
