So are all ordinary front-line staff plus police and fire personnel supposed to be trained as electrical engineers so they can instantly distinguish "fake bomb" from "real bomb"?? I don't know what that thing looks like, but I'm not an engineer or geek and if I saw someone walking through an airport with a circuit board plus small power source on the front of their chest I'd certainly think there was at least a chance it could be a dangerous device.

I do know that in an age of suicide bombings and threats to aviation no sensible person would walk through an airport like that, or think that they should be allowed to walk through an airport like that. But maybe she'll have some ACLU types argue that it's her constitutional right to walk through airports displaying any type of electrical objects she chooses to display......

Your gripe is misplaced. Anyone who deliberately does anything, such as remove the back of an IPOD and then wave it around, as you suggest, is trying to draw attention to him/herself and this “device”. Given the situation we today find ourselves in and the fear we all have to live with when traveling, whomever does this sort of thing needs to pay dearly AND have their photo and punishment spread nationwide just so people get the idea of the price they will have to pay if they do the same thing.

The girl is a damn fool and needs to spend a minimum of 30 days in jail as well as pay a fine of at least $15000.

The only good that will come out of this is we will soon see the parents of this twit go public and decry the system that preys on a young girl who was only trying to make an artful statement.

In the end we can all have a good laugh on their behalf.

Look there’s some truth in what you are saying, but I can’t entirely agree.

What would be the purpose of having bare electronics in this public setting? People are naturally going to want to investigate. As long as you could provide a reasoned explanaton, and perhaps show them the device functioning, they’d probably make you put it in your luggage and forget about it.

There’s just too much going on right now. If I have to take my shoes, jacket and other items off to get through security, bare electronics seem like fair game to me.

Oh gee, you are sooo clever. Tell me did the police KNOW this was no bomb BEFORE they arrested the girl? If so how? Are you even aware that she wasn't ARRESTED for having a bomb? Did you KNOW that she was arrested for having a deceiving device? Do you claim that no one should ever be arrested unless it is first proved that they have a bomb? Or better yet, should we wait until the bomb actually EXPLODES?
