Thompson calls for stop to Iranian leader's visit
The Dallas Morning News ^ | Thompson calls for stop to Iranian leader's visit | GROMER JEFFERS Jr.

Posted on 09/20/2007 9:53:52 PM PDT by mdittmar

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Thursday that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should not be allowed into the country, much less at the World Trade Center site, when he travels to New York next week to address the United Nations.

"I know there would be ramifications in the United Nations" if the U.S. refused to let Mr. Ahmadinejad into the country, Mr. Thompson said during a brief news conference at Dallas Love Field. "I would deny this character a visa. What's he going to do, visit there to get pointers for his own activities? I wouldn't let him in the country."

Mr. Thompson said the Iranian regime was a threat to Americans and should be dealt with accordingly.

"They've been killing Americans here and there all over the world for some time," he said. "They're doing so in Iraq today."

Score one for Fred Thompson!

Have any of the other would-be Republican candidates made a definitive call for not letting this nut job even enter the US, much less visit Ground Zero or address a university audience?

Despite the repeated polls purporting to show that a majority of Americans are tired of the war in Iraq. and the WOT overall, I think if the question is asked fairly the results would be quite different! Many of those who are reported to being tired of, or against, the wars are really fed up with how they are being pursued, not the wars themselves or their desire to come away with an honorable victory.

I think it is in reference to an old Willy Nelson Country Music Song.

"I've always been crazy but it's kept me from going insane."

Probably in reference to Fred's remarks, though sounding crazy to some, are pretty much right on the money. At least that's how I took it. Rome2000 could have meant something entirely different I suppose.

Well, I can not claim to know him personally at all...but I have followed his music for many, many years...seeing him first, before any stardom and before Austin, with Ray Price and the Cherokee Cowboys...then later, again beofre Austin, on the Grand Ole Opry.

His writing of music was solid and picked up by a lot of stars before his own distinctive style blossomed in Austin...which it did and I am glad for him. I do not agree at all with a lot of his politics...but he is an unbelievably talented musician.

Now, that fiurst part goes back a few years, into the early 1960s when I was a young boy, but had a Dad who loved country music.
