That’s great. I hope I’ll be able to understand the people when I call. For a northern hillbilly, it ain’t always easy to understand them people from down south.

Got a marketing call from BellSouth a few months ago that was obviously outsourced to India or some other Asian country. I just thought to myself, “Are they trying to sell me something or just pi$$ me off.” What idiots!

I don’t know if this is technically correct....
but since this seems to be, albeit modest, a return of jobs from overseas...
I’ve associated the article with:
KEYWORD: INSOURCING

If they'd located it in the Fayetteville area, they'd have been
able to tap the geeks associated with the U of Arkansas.
And, at least historically, the northwest corner is more Republican
and/or conservative than most of the rest of the state.

They make it sound like it’s a customer driven thing. The fact is the dollar is so low it’s not worth it to outsource anymore. American labor is almost as cheap and the savings on the long distance calls and extra time customers have to hold and then stay on the phone to talk to misunderstood indian english is factors driving this. Besides, they had an unprecedented increase in 3rd level escalations which came back to the US to resolve. It all equaled more expense.
It is being driven by costs not customer demand or a “commitment to the country”.
But nice to see anyway.

The corporation where I am employed outsourced IT support to Bangalore three years ago. The result has been nothing short of abysmal. Local divisions are hiring local IT support people to solve problems completely outside of corporate IT protocol and paying for these services from their own budgets even though a monthly fee is being paid for “IT Support”. I know this because I am one of those managers. I could tell story after story. The short story is that down time means lost productivity, and managers have to do what it takes to keep business running, even if this means ignoring corporate IT protocol while folks in Bangalore thrash with aging IT support tickets. What a mess.

Do the officers of the company have a clue what is going on? I’ve found that CIOs are very good and BSing the VPs into believing that outsourcing is a success.

At last, a little good news on the outsourcing front. Outsourcing is one of the great tragedies of the modern economy.
