Should UPD drop its charges against Andrew Meyer? Click above link and page down to almost the bottom. This is "The Independent Florida Alligator" the campus newspaper.
A more meaningful poll might read: “Should Andrew Meyer drop his lawsuit against UPD?”
Needs FReeping.
What I saw on the video is consistant with what's written there.
Who says it has to be a fair fight? Enough officers? Really. The kid was able to twist free and face the officers at the top of the stairs. They did NOT have control. Why should they or the nearby public get hurt banging around in an aisle on the stairs with this punk?
And Andrew Meyer is your typical liberal racist. He sees a black man with a taser and says, "Don't tase me Bro". Imagine that, an ungrateful black working class man who didn't follow orders from a rich white liberal punk.
The officers are trained to properly arrest. From the video it appeared they were doing a poor job. So they relied on the Taser to do it for them. A taser should be used when an officer is in duress which clearly they were not. The Police Chief should send them for more training.
not necessarily. taser’s are meant to keep distance between cops and disturbed people. if you go in to effect an arrest and they physically resist, you need to up your force. the cops problem here is that they were too soft with this kid from the get-go. a lot of cops are scared to put their hands on people, and it gets them hurt.
I have no idea how tazers discharge, but if you listen closely on the videos on youtube, you can hear the “buzz” from the tazer about 4 times, and the kid actually yells out in pain about the same number of times. The UPD officer was sitting on his chest and using the tazer, I thought tazers were to be used for longer range.
Anyhoo, the good news is all the lib students on the youtube commentaries are really mad at Kerry. They think he should have intervened.
People often use "bro", "man" and "dude" interchangeably. The guy behind the counter at the deli said to me yesterday, "Thanks, bro." when I left with my sandwich.
"Dude, don't tase me!" would be like "Don't tase me, bro!" Had he used the "n-word", it would be different.
We should recognize racism when it happens, but I don't think we need to attach Sharptonian racially-based motive to everything, even if it's an electrified lib.
Numerious officers were available to properly arrest him. I guess the cadet trainers should throw out the class of how to arrest someone and go straight to the use of tasers. My problem with tasers is police use them to easily. It makes for lazy officer.
fact is, there are some guys you have to mase or taser before you even touch them. you just know that putting your hands on them won't get the job done. it's all about personal safety. i'm not saying that should have been done here, but i have seen it done and it was the necessary amount of force.
the use of force is an escalating scale but it does not dictate that you must try to use your hands first, and then your stick, then your mase, then your gun. you can go right to any one of those force options depending on the situation.
I guess you missed the part on the video where an officer was drawning down on the protester the whole time. The guy needed to be arrested but not tasered.
This was a big kid and he was way out of control, he easily could have hurt a bystander, an officer or grabbed one of their weapons. He was wailing like they were cutting his head off before they even tased him.
i've seen people tasered who were relatively calm. it's just that when the cops said they were going to take them away, the person said they would fight the cops. after many chances to come quietly, they were tased. then they were cuffed. ten minutes later they were fine and all the cops were safe.
i just watched the video again. this guy should have been tased earlier. actually, he should have been stunned. too many people around for tasing.
LOL! That picture kills me!
So which would you prefer ?...to be shot with a 9 mm or tazed ?....
