Taxpayers Speak Out Against Internet Taxation

40 Groups sign letter calling on Congress to permanently ban Internet access taxes

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today 40 groups representing millions of taxpayers across the country sent a letter to Congress calling for a permanent ban on Internet taxes. With the Internet Tax Moratorium set to expire on November 1st, permanently extending the moratorium has broad bi-partisan support.

According to the letter, "The Internet prospers today as the result of unshackled innovation and technological growth unfettered by government taxation or regulation. Although policies up to this point have temporarily put a hold on government interference, passing a permanent ban on Internet taxation would send a signal that the Internet is open for further growth and development.

Taxing access and Internet activities would not only hinder the expansion of technology that fuels our modern economy, but it would also rebuild communication barriers among families, hamper growing businesses, and negatively impact our lives in countless ways.

The U.S. cannot afford to open the free Internet market to taxation. The time of temporary moratorium has passed. Once again we, the undersigned groups, urge you to co-sponsor and work to pass S. 156 and H.R. 743 which would permanently extend the federal moratorium on Internet access taxes."

"It's great that there is broad support for another temporary extension of the Internet Tax Moratorium. But another temporary extension is not enough," said taxpayer advocate Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. "Taxpayers are calling on Congress to send a signal that they won't come back in a few years and start taxing the Internet. The time is right for a permanent ban on Internet taxes."

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) is a non-partisan coalition of taxpayers and taxpayer groups who oppose all federal, state and local tax increases. For more information or to arrange an interview, please contact John Kartch at (202) 785-0266 or at johnkartch@atr.org.

The Government controls and taxes almost every aspect of our lives now … please leave the Internet alone. The Internet is the last area of our lives not taxed and controlled by Uncle Sam … leave us something! Not to mention, it is one of the last bastions of complete free speech available to the world.

I can recall just a few years ago that my daughter bought many things over the internet, tax free and they would be at her house in a couple of days!

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m thinking there were no shipping charges at that time. Perhaps the initial cost was a bit higher to account for that but can’t say.

State sales taxes

New York has often tried to follow NYers who drive to NJ to buy clothing, TVs, etc. - recored and photograph thier license plate numbers

Then bill them for NY sales taxes they missed getting

Even my liberal sister thinks Bloomie’s NYC $8 minimum daily access tax is fair and great

I told her CT and NJ and PA would tax NYC residents as they entered NE states on weekends or vacations

New Yorkers have no idea how tired others are of their entitlement and elitist BS

After 911 is has been one long gimme from NYC & NJ libs who are often beyond wealthy and think they won the LOTTO

Clue:

Next time don’t hold your breath as you anti-American anti-military NYC jerks are on your own now

I know a NYC attorney the feds literally pushed $35,000 cash onto because he had an office in Manhattan - but zero damage and no loss of business

You suckers out in the Heartland take notice

They are still demanding more from the feds for 911 - your tax dollars

That’s astounding!

Yes, state sales tax, I didn’t read the article clear through and always in my mind is the thought of future taxes and fees ‘they’ would like to put on the internet.

Hillary sez the internet needs a “gatekeeper”

The libs want to tax every email and hit or connection

Screaming about lost postal revenues and phone taxes

To tax your email the feds would have to have access to your email accounts - and that also means content
