According to my high school chemistry book, hydrogen sulfide (also a product of your bathroom gases experiment) mixed with water produces sulfuric acid. You’re lucky your legs weren’t dissolved in that mix! Or maybe your nostrils.

Not so much. H2S dissolves in water, and lowers the pH, but will readily come out of solution--and is deadly--one lung full deadly--at a mere 1000 ppm.

Truckers who haul water or crude oil from 'sour' wells have to be well versed in the use of breathing apparatus and monitoring devices. The other insidious thing about H2S is that it paralyzes the olfactory nerves. Not smelling it does not mean it went away, it could have become more concentrated.
