Are you joking? I heard about the Democrats wanted to do something like this for the long-term homeowners who pay little or no mortgage but never did it because we kicked them out of power in the 90's.

The issue of free rent is fairly well defined when it comes to employment related reduced rent. Clear rules (mostly) as outlined above.

Why is McGayvee living in this house? Is it to provide security while the owner is away? Is it out of the goodness of the owners heart?

I’d check with an enrolled agent before providing an opinion but imputed income is common in the case of bankruptcy (debt forgiveness) and housing allowances that are not Required as a condition of employment.

If he was a Log Cabin repub, you can be certain that he would be paying taxes on the free rent.
