WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A retired federal judge is a leading candidate to replace Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose last day on the job was Friday, two sources familiar with the search for a successor told CNN on Saturday...
Ironically, nominating Mukasey could cause Bush trouble from the conservative right. In 2005, the liberal group Alliance for Justice listed Mukasey among those it considered "consensus" choices for possible Bush Supreme Court picks. In 2003, liberal Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, a leading liberal voice on judicial nominations, listed Mukasey as an acceptable Supreme Court choice in a letter he sent to Bush.

ANYONE Schumer considers acceptable is not acceptable.
.
President Bush is truly a slow learner.
Sorry, I’m not buying it......this is from CNN. IF it IS true, Bush is DESTROYED.
He ruled Padilla could be held as an enemy combatant but could see his lawyers. In his court two would-be terrorist bombers were sentenced to life in prison based on evidence discovered during the 1993 WTC bombing investigation.
He also thinks Congress hasn't done enough to address the legal framework needed in dealing with the post 9/11 world.
He went to Columbia and Yale. Obviously we don't have enough Harvard and Yale grads in government already. Here's a glowing article in support of his potential Attorney General nomation at National Review not known for its liberal bent.
“Looks like another Harriet Miers moment coming.”
or maybe another albertogonzales
President Bush is truly a slow learner.
or something else
... except that Bush doesn’t care: he’s never running for office again.
IF it IS true, Bush is DESTROYED.
This isn't another Harriet Miers, this guy would be a serious candidate.
It’s because he appears soooo WEAK with the conservatives.
Sources, BS.
He’ll do fine. Hell, a 57 Buick would be better than what we’ve suffered. I’m more worried about the next Reno.
Again, his being endorsed by Schumer as well as being recommended by several liberal law groups is disturbing. And its not advisable to vouch for his consevatism based in part on his being nominated by Reagan. You’ve forgotten a Justice Kennedy and an ex Justice O’Connor? They got the nod of the Gipper as well you know.

I want Ted Olson. I'd fight the libs for him. LoserSchumer needs to STFU. I don't care for consensus. Since when has libs ever given us any 'consensus'?? Never.
Including Chertoff?
Seeing as CNN has it as their main headline and NR ran a fawning op ed the other day about the guy I think its, sadly, legit.
What, Harriet Miers wasn’t available?
lol, afraid not. The legal star must be too busy dealing with her contempt of Congress charge.
