SHANKSVILLE, Pa. An environmental specialist for a Central City engineering firm was attacked by a buck while she was studying wetlands at a game preserve in Stonycreek Township Wednesday.
Jamie Detweiler, 35, of Ligonier, was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, where her condition was not immediately available.
Detweiler was doing wetlands dilineation at the preserve for Musser Engineering when the buck suddenly charged her, goring her in the leg, said Roger Harmon, owner of 6 Springs Hunts on Lambertsville Road in the shadows of the Flight 93 temporary memorial.
This is the first time its ever happened up here, said Harmon, who has operated the preserve for deer, wild boars and rams for the past five years.
Randy Musser, president of Musser engineering, said were thankful, thank God that Detweiler was not maimed even more severely.
State Wildlife Conservation Officer Travis Anderson was near the preserve when he heard reports of the attack over the scanner around 10:37 a.m.
Why the deer charged remains uncertain: Anderson said buck typically wont begin their rut for another six weeks or so.
The buck remains free on the fenced-in preserve, he added.
Deer inside fences sometimes have a tendency to be more used to human beings than other deer, Anderson said.
The woman was doing wetlands work inside the preserve when confronted by the buck.
Freepers RAMMED four times.
Even the wildlife hates environmentalists.
Yes they did.
PA is a shall issue state. Unlike some states we dont need a permit to buy a gun, just a clean record. We can’t use semi-autos for hunting but you can buy and own as many as you like.
Freepers and the back button got RAMMED four times this morning.
:-)
More coffee before posting helps.
male dogs..especially large territorial ones with their package intact know when a woman is having her period
i guess they associate that with ovulation...which in humans is slightly different than canines.....i think a canine bitch sheds eggs as she ovulates rather than ovulation and shedding being different times like with women
someone here might know
anyhow, it can be embarassing, they just thrust their noses where they like..lol
