SHANKSVILLE, Pa. An environmental specialist for a Central City engineering firm was attacked by a buck while she was studying wetlands at a game preserve in Stonycreek Township Wednesday.
Jamie Detweiler, 35, of Ligonier, was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, where her condition was not immediately available.
Detweiler was doing wetlands dilineation at the preserve for Musser Engineering when the buck suddenly charged her, goring her in the leg, said Roger Harmon, owner of 6 Springs Hunts on Lambertsville Road in the shadows of the Flight 93 temporary memorial.
This is the first time its ever happened up here, said Harmon, who has operated the preserve for deer, wild boars and rams for the past five years.
Randy Musser, president of Musser engineering, said were thankful, thank God that Detweiler was not maimed even more severely.
State Wildlife Conservation Officer Travis Anderson was near the preserve when he heard reports of the attack over the scanner around 10:37 a.m.
Why the deer charged remains uncertain: Anderson said buck typically wont begin their rut for another six weeks or so.
The buck remains free on the fenced-in preserve, he added.
Deer inside fences sometimes have a tendency to be more used to human beings than other deer, Anderson said.
The woman was doing wetlands work inside the preserve when confronted by the buck.
And then when they do, the other animals cheer them on and crack jokes! (Cue Disney/Pixar movie music)
It will definately take out his 4 wheel drive.
Oh Yea it works ! Had a buck rip up a campsite cause someone left the bottle open gearing up for a hunt !
Bambo, funny!!
I prefer the 350-grain, eau de 45-70 fragrance, which smells like 70-caliber when you smell it real close.
That is really frightening...a good reminder that wild animals are just that - wild.

That just sounds funny!
I use a 130 gr. in a .270
The prof went up to it, and had his femoral artery slashed. He died in front of his adult son.
There's another TX story about an exotic animal hunting preserve. A couple of guys take a pickup in to it, and while on foot, get surprised by some non-North American beast.
They made it back to the truck, but the animal did a number on it before they could get away. I always wondered about the truck owner filing an insurance claim.
Might this be her?
ummmm, errr, huh?...are you saying that I am a ....never mind, forget it...
I wouldn't want to get near the sharp end of one of those babies.
You must be thinking about NJ or NY. Pa’s gun laws are some of the most 2nd amendment friendly in the country.
This was apparently a canned hunting place. The article indicates there were deer, wild boars and RAMS.
