Gingrich Thinks No Candidate a Match For the Clinton Machine
Washington Post ^ | Sep 14, 2007 | Dan Balz

Posted on 09/14/2007 6:05:28 PM PDT by indcons

Newt Gingrich, who must wake up each day spewing ideas and dispensing advice, offered a gloomy prognosis today of his party's chances of winning the White House in 2008 and his own prospects of running.

"I believe for any Republican to win in 2008, they have to have a clean break and offer a dramatic, bold change," he said. "If we nominate somebody who has not done that...they're very, very unlikely to win it."

Republicans must break with President Bush and separate themselves from the current state of the political system, he said, and so far none of the current candidates has met that test. But he also made clear that there is now almost no likelihood that he will become a candidate himself, having too little money, too much baggage and too much impatience for a successful campaign.

Gingrich, like many Republicans, believes Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee, and he spoke with some awe of the Clinton machine after remarking on the fact that, on the same day, Bill Clinton was on Oprah and Hillary Clinton was on the Ellen DeGeneres show. "As a professional, I am very, very impressed," he said.

Clinton can be defeated, he said, but only by the kind of campaign that none of the potential nominees is yet running. "None of the Republicans have figured out how to get a routine, repetitive explanation of the future that breaks out of the current situation and that's their primary challenge," he said. "Whoever does that will both, I think, win the nomination and have a realistic chance of defeating Sen. Clinton."

Also 99% of the FReepers who hate on Bush constantly are just completely selfish, and myopic.
They hate the shamnesty bill and that he pushed it, and because of that, they are willing to sell him out and throw him under the bus.

Screw judges, screw the Wot, screw the tax cuts (and the incredible shrinking defect)... he wanted amnesty so he must be thrown in the trash.

Its mind-numbing to me how these people think they promote conservatism when they if they don’t get 100% of what they want, they feel its better to have 0%.

Same jokers who ‘taught republicans a lesson’ in ‘06...

Selfish... short-sighted... and certainly doing nothing worthy of ‘respect’

Newt is brilliant, but still a spoiled wisacre know-it-all brainiac fat kid with a too-high IQ and no true leadership or manhood.

Well put.

As much as I admired Newt, his whining is getting on my nerves. The sky is always falling with this guy in this campaign.

>>>I hate to tell you this upsdriver, because I like Duncan Hunter but he has the charisma of a Bassett Hound that just swallowed 10 mg. of valium.

I even have a hard time listening to him. I can’t put the finger on it but, he is just so UNinspiriing<<<

That is interesting, because I find Hunter completely inspiring. I log on and watch every speech and interview I can find. Maybe it is because his message connects so well with me. On the other hand, many say Thompson is inspiring and I cannot stand to even listen to him. To me, he is as dull as dirt. Tastes differ, like someone had to buy those lime green Ford Pintos back in the 70s.

“Should the ‘R’s tender the usual RINO or mushbag, the krintons will regain the White House.”

True. Not particularly popular, but true.

Heh. You could add 'clinton's bitch,' 'whoremonger,' 'full of himself,' and-- oh yes--'right.'

How is he right?

Newt says the GOP candidate needs to offer “a clean break and offer a dramatic, bold change...” I agree. Without that, it’s Bob Dole redux, no matter how well Thompson “connects with voters,” how “folksy” he is, or whatever else endears him to Fredheads.
Would G.W. Bush win a third term if he were constitutionally eligible? If the answer is no, then conservatives need Newt’s “dramatic, bold change.”
If the answer is yes, then sure, trot Fred out.

“Bush fooled a lot of people with his Texas accent and “aw shucks” speaking, which got people thinking he was a gin-you-wine conservative. But really he’s just a big-business, globalist, big government Repub., and he only appeals to those constituencies as well as the Republicans who don’t care who’s in office, just so long as there’s an (R) next to their name.”

You’re right on the money...

Whoever wins the nod in the primary, just like Bush, will be 1000000% better than any socialist liberal democrat traitor.

I will happily vote for any one of them (well less happily if somehow bizzaro mcstain won it... but even then)

This is because conservatism is an icon to be displayed and held aloft to the slobbering masses - not applied.

True. And without secure borders, it’s a moot point.

“You should’ve heard the same false bravado here on FR back when she ran for Senator in NY...”

Exactly why there has to be a real conservative - not the media approved “first-tiers” - to challenge her.

“Bob Dole proceeded to resign from his Leadership and Senate seat (also widely praised by the media) and then ingloriously and miserably lose in 1996 elections..”

And John McCain stumped for Dole, saying it was “Bob Dole’s turn...” I sense the same deal occurring in ‘08, with Thompson.

Note to Fredheads: “Yeah, yeah, I know, Fred’s really great, and he can’t miss...”

Didn't get a chance to read through the entire thread, but I ask:

What in the hell is she gonna win in the south??

and of course my second question:

Nearly half of Americans polled (many times) have consistently said that they won't vote for her under any circumstances. How does she win with one of the largest negative ratings for a non-incumbent in recent history?

“who do we come up with to save us? Fred Thompson, the 21st century version of Bob Dole! The Republican party is embarrassingly pathetic.”

Beyond pathetic. And any but the pre-approved “first-tier” candidates are immediately labeled as non-electable.
