Gingrich Thinks No Candidate a Match For the Clinton Machine
Washington Post ^ | Sep 14, 2007 | Dan Balz

Posted on 09/14/2007 6:05:28 PM PDT by indcons

Newt Gingrich, who must wake up each day spewing ideas and dispensing advice, offered a gloomy prognosis today of his party's chances of winning the White House in 2008 and his own prospects of running.

"I believe for any Republican to win in 2008, they have to have a clean break and offer a dramatic, bold change," he said. "If we nominate somebody who has not done that...they're very, very unlikely to win it."

Republicans must break with President Bush and separate themselves from the current state of the political system, he said, and so far none of the current candidates has met that test. But he also made clear that there is now almost no likelihood that he will become a candidate himself, having too little money, too much baggage and too much impatience for a successful campaign.

Gingrich, like many Republicans, believes Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee, and he spoke with some awe of the Clinton machine after remarking on the fact that, on the same day, Bill Clinton was on Oprah and Hillary Clinton was on the Ellen DeGeneres show. "As a professional, I am very, very impressed," he said.

Clinton can be defeated, he said, but only by the kind of campaign that none of the potential nominees is yet running. "None of the Republicans have figured out how to get a routine, repetitive explanation of the future that breaks out of the current situation and that's their primary challenge," he said. "Whoever does that will both, I think, win the nomination and have a realistic chance of defeating Sen. Clinton."

and replaced with whom?
/////////////
people who are not quite so excited by the prospect of merging the USA with Mexico and Canada and “harmonizing” US laws with those of Europe and elsewhere.

These are everywhere bad deals for US citizens.

I sure agree with this assessment and would add that success spoiled Newt. It went to his head and he wasn’t/isn’t thinking logically enough to see the consequences of some of his more stupid, and I do mean stupid moves......moves that if he had just a smidgin of common sense would have told him, Don’t do this, it will come back to bite you big time.

The republican governor of Hawaii is a minnow in democratic ocean. Hawaii won’t vote republican in any case.

Part of me wants to tell Newt to shut the F up. But part of me fears he is right.

Have you been hitting the sauce, dipdung? No place in what I said did I infer that Hawaii would vote Republican. By the way they said that about our Governor’s race in 2002....Hawaii will never vote for a Republican for Governor.
Well, just like your idiotic, assessments, they were wrong

"I believe for any Republican to win in 2008, they have to have a clean break and offer a dramatic, bold change,"

What the Hell does Newt think Ron Paul is doing? Ron Paul is the ONLY GOP candidate that is offering pure, 100% traditional conservatism and an end to the quasi-socialist status quo that threatens to turn this nation into a 3rd world basket case. He has total grassroots support and is drawing in voters from all over the political spectrum. Newt Gingrich is a flipping joke, I don't know why FReepers worship this man, he's a total fraud who got PW3ND by the Clintons.

I thought Newt was advising Fred.

Hmmmmmmm. I haven't heard that. But, if you can find some documentation to substantiate it, I would be very happy to see it.

Whatever Newt's faults, he has a brilliant political mind.

Newt is brilliant, but still a spoiled wisacre know-it-all brainiac fat kid with a too-high IQ and no true leadership or manhood.

Maybe, but Newt got the most of the Contract through the House. He also got a repeal of the Assault Weapons ban through the House, even if the Senate never acted, up or down on repeal.

Leading the House is like herding cats. (of course leading the Senate is like herding egomaniac turtles)

I hate to tell you this upsdriver, because I like Duncan Hunter but he has the charisma of a Bassett Hound that just swallowed 10 mg. of valium.

I even have a hard time listening to him. I can't put the finger on it but, he is just so UNinspiriing.

We need someone with fire in the belly. The only two who demonstrate that are the kook, Ron Paul, who is an imbecilic, old fart having his last hurrah, and Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is a nice guy but, I don't believe America is ready to elect a Baptist Preacher to the position of POTUS.

As my Granny used to say: "We're in a mell of a hess."

who needs a prez who thinks ‘their team’ is too weak and in turn is saying hillary is so powerful.

First: He's not "prez" and says he's not even running. Second: What if it's true?

Newt sure loves hillary.

I think he doesn't so much love her, as respect her as political opponent. "Respect" in the same sense that Patton respected Rommel, while still wanting to kick his ass. Only with less admiration, and more abhorrence.

Nah, I think he’s just being honest. Hopefully it will work and someone will do what he has suggested. It would be a refreshing change for someone to show some “huevos” -—as they say.

Evidently Newt left his calculator in Congress when he was forced out because you can’t win the presidency with high negative numbers like that.

Rig enough voting machines, count enough hanging chads, and otherwise be really good at dirty tricks, and you can. Her thighness is.

Ah yes... all of the MSM favorites are 'in awe' of the MSM machine.

At this rate Newt will soon be the new 'mavrick republican' and will sink below mcstain, who has been on his best behavior as of late.

Just a year ago was in this mode as well.

BEST BUDZ
