David said one of the bullies angrily asked him whether he knew pink on a male was a symbol of homosexuality.

It used to be a symbol of folks who washed their whites with their reds (i.e. men who didn't know what we were doing or didn't care). I probably still have some pink long johns tucked away somewhere in the closet.
