The answer is: the people that own pit bulls have a low self image and most are insecure about life. The killer dog makes them “somebody” in their mind. The dog gives them the macho that they lack themselves.

I hope that you don't think that of all pit bull owners.

What about the people who like the American Pit Bull Terrier's breed characteristics?

I happen to like pit bulls. I like the way that they look and plan to get a puppy soon. I fully intend to properly train and socialize my dog and certainly don't want it to be viewed as a "killer", or "tough guy dog". In fact, I despise the scumbags who get pit bulls (or any dog) for that reason.

Best of luck to you if and when you do get a pit bull pup. I have owned a few pit bulls since 1997. And it is very very hard to own this breed and defend your dog day after day. But it’s well worth it.
