Times like these are especially hard if you have a good, decent heart.

I guess I’m just lucky in not being so cursed.

SSgt Wuterich and his Marines did their job that day after the IED explosion and survived.

Murtha was in Washington in a nice office and later condemned them on pure hearsay. He has not apologized to this day to the Marines who have had all charges dropped aginst them.

Murtha is scum!

That is an excellent statement, nicely done.

"The four of us aggressively advanced on the house and on approach I advised the team something like shoot first and ask questions later or don't hesitate to shoot. 1 can't remember my exact words but I wanted them to understand that hesitation to shoot would only result in the four of us being killed. This was the first time we would employ MOUT training tactics since we had been in Iraq."

I only hope that the Marines on the ground KEEP this attitude at all times and continue to ignore the idiots in the rear with the gear who sit at desks and work on "rules of engagement", "battlefield ethics" curricula, and other sensitivity training.

“Murtha is scum!”

Murtha is a liar, a defeatist and a betrayer.

There is no thing more universally despised in every culture ever developed by human kind than a betrayer.

Betrayal is one of the very few universal taboos.

... Well, more than likely at least some of the Iraqis were aware of the placement of the IED in the road.

Didn't the girl Younis (?) say that she 'saw the convoy approaching, and covered her ears as she knew an IED was going to go off'? That one of the children would state that leaves me no doubt that this was a planned assault on our forces with the acquiescence of the civilians, if not outright support and encouragement. That alone mitigates any feeling of remorse I might have for the civilians, they created the place and assisted in the timing.

Thanks for this, Red; glad that we have men like SSgt. Wunterich; sad that there are so few like him in JAG.

One of the occupants of the houses, a young girl, was interviewed at which time she said she knew the IED was going to go off so she covered her ears. That little detail says a whole lot about how “neutral” the house occupants were.

Thanks for posting this. Now, people will be able to read what actually happened that “horrible” day and hopefully understand.

Nat Helms and I have something up our sleeves to do a little more on that score. Hope to get it posted tomorrow. I think you'll like it a lot.

It's not from lack of trying. My neighbor actually asked me on the phone tonight how the Marine is that is on trial. You know I corrected her by saying it's not a trial, it was a hearing:) They may think I am crazy being on FR with my "invisible" friends....but nobody has said so. ( It's just a hunch.)

Sounds like Frank’s statement was calm, clear, and concise. Before reading this statement, I had never realized that Cpl. Salinas had also fired on the sedan’s occupants. It appears that three Marines from different angles/locations after the IED were sensing similar danger from the taxi. It’s quite odd how Cpl. Salinas is involved in all these instances, but is the only one either not charged or given immunity. Speaks loudly of prosecutorial shennanigans. Lt. Col. Ware is a smart, comman sense, IO. I think he’ll see through this.
