Thompson Up, Romney And Ron Paul Down In Latest Gallup Poll (Messiah Paul Down to 1% Nationally)
The Liberty Papers ^ | 09/10/2007 | Doug Mataconis

Posted on 09/11/2007 10:49:01 PM PDT by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

The latest Gallup Poll is out and it shows a small surge for Fred Thompson, while Mitt Romney falls, and Ron Paul falls along with him:

WASHINGTON — Former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson has gotten a modest bump in support after finally announcing he’s running for the Republican presidential nomination, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. And Arizona Sen. John McCain may have started to turn around his beleaguered campaign.

McCain, who bottomed out in a USA TODAY poll in mid-August after financial woes and a staff shake-up, has rebounded by 4 percentage points, to 15%. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has slipped 4 points from August, to 10%.

At 34%, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani leads the field, as he has all year.

The poll, taken Friday and Saturday, shows Republican voters a bit more satisfied with their choice of candidates than they were in April, while Democratic voters are a bit less satisfied. The Democratic edge on that measure of enthusiasm is now negligible.

The full poll results are here, and also show that Ron Paul dropped back down to 1% after being at 3% last month, this the lowest Paul has polled in the Gallup poll since the beginning of June.

This is disappointing because it seemed like Paul had started to gather at least some support that was being registered in the national polls over the summer. I’m not sure where it went, or if the down tick is just an indication of a fickle electorate.

Ron Paul’s words and antics are pissing off republican voters. His supporters are not helping his cause but hurting it with their behavior too. Republican voters are watching and they do not like what they see. Ron Paul should have stayed out of the POTUS race because his nutiness was off the radar before. Now he has been exposed for his insane beliefs regarding terrorism, 9/11, the middle east and our foreign policy, not to mention his earmarks. Paul is his own worst enemy now and like Chuck Hagel, who thought he could say and do outrageous things and still get reelected, Paul will soon be unemployed. His days as a GOP congressman are numbered because he has thoroughly pissed off the largest voting bloc he needs to keep his seat, republicans.

Guess all those meet-ups organized via Democratic Underground haven't been doing the trick, after all. ;)

It is a pity that Paul has chosen to take the route he has. He could be so much more.

I think one would have to be the modern-day equivalent of Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire in order to poll a la minuet, don't you...? ;)

Fred is bound to get a look-see bounce in the polls which will drop after the attacks on him begin.

Here in my (mostly liberal) part of Texas, the only GOP bumper stickers I see are for Ron Paul, moreso even than Obama or Hillary. In fact, the candidate whose name I see most on bumper stickers around town is still Kerry/Edwards.

Kent,

Did you read the posts left by the readers from the thread link? Paul’s supporters are truly delusional.

Oh, yeah. This one was my absolute stone favorite of the bunch:

"Sadly if Ron Paul does become president he will be assassinated. Because he’s trying to do the same thing JFK and Lincoln where doing" {sic]

I imagine the basement-dwelling whackadoo chorus providing the greater portion of his "support" online would happily start referring to ol' RP as "Moses," if not for the unfortunately Hebraic antecedents of said name. ;)

Begin?! Are you serious? The libscum, Paulians, and Rudybots have been attacking Fred Thompson with all they have for months! Maybe you didn't notice because those attacks have been so lame, but they have been trying!

Ron Paul should become the new Reason editor, he is clearly not going to get a fair hearing in the media and without that you can't run for national office.

It's Fred Time
