A Sept. 11 Photo Brings Out the Conspiracy Theorists
New York Times ^ | September 11, 2007 | SEAN D. HAMILL

Valencia M. McClatchey thought she was doing the right thing when she gave the F.B.I. a copy of her photo of the mushroom-shaped cloud that rose over the hill outside her home after United Flight 93 crashed in a field here on Sept. 11, 2001.

And, after it became apparent that hers was the only known picture of that ominous gray cloud — and the first taken after Flight 93 crashed — Mrs. McClatchey thought she was still doing the right thing when she gave copies to people who asked for them, and let newspapers and television stations use it.

But fame for the photo has had an unexpected cost for the photographer.

“Every time I’ve done any stories it goes online and all these conspiracy theorists start up and they call me and harass me,” said Mrs. McClatchey, 51, who runs her own real estate company.

In online postings, critics have ripped apart every element of the photo and Mrs. McClatchey’s life. They accuse her of faking the photo, of profiteering from it and of being part of a conspiracy to cover up that the government shot down Flight 93.

They claim the mushroom cloud is from an ordnance blast, not a jet crashing; the cloud is the wrong color for burning jet fuel; the cloud is too small and in the wrong position.

They have posted her personal e-mail address, phone numbers and street address online. One Canadian “9/11 debunker” surreptitiously taped a phone conversation with her, questioning her about the photo, and then uploaded it to his Web site.

Lock them in a room and make them listen to Rush until they are addicted. Then turn them loose.

I remember listening to Err Amerika one day when Richard Clark was talking to Ed Shultz about how Bush whisked away the Bin Laden family from the US back to the Middle East on 9/11. When Clark said that Bush did not do it and HE was the one responsible for getting the Bin Laden family out of the US, Ed was dumbfounded. It was like Clark kicked him in the balls. Clark himself killed one of the lefts biggest conspiracies.

I tried to listen to Err Amerika to keep up with their whacked out theories so I could research responses to the moonbats at work. After a few minutes I have to turn. I could never build up a tolerance to their mad ravings.

I had the about the same experience listening to Radio Pacifica
in Los Angeles, but somehow their conspiracy theory guests were
SO OUT THERE, the entertainment factor squelched my vomit impulse.

Err America and Radio Pacifica show why the USSR fell.
Nobody could long stomach their equivalent (Radio Moscow).

Couldn’t hurt. Never heard of a “truther” until a couple of days ago. Wonder if they have considered the “fact” that truth has only one source, and is unchangeable, even eternal, else it isn’t truth. This reminds me of the lie of the day, that there are two sides to every story. That too is bunk, a myth brought to you by those who don’t or can’t believe truth in the first place. Truth is far to grounded in, well, truth, and leaves no room for conspiracy theories.

...and especially that fat readhead Ed. Can’t stand him. It only takes 15 seconds of audio to send me up off the launch pad.

Don't ya love it when that happens! LOL!

I can only read DU in short doses. I have sympathy for those that work with the mentally ill. I don't think that I could do that and be kind. I have no patience with those who blather idiocys that defy common sense. They spend their lives making up bogeymen and hide from the real ones.
