36 Israeli SOLDIERS wounded by Gaza rocket attack

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Thirty-six Israeli soldiers were wounded Tuesday by two rockets fired into Israel by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, a military spokesman and medics said.

The rocket struck the Zikim base located north of the Gaza Strip, said the spokesman.

There was no immediate information on the extent of the injuries to the soldiers, who were evacuated to hospitals by two helicopters and around 20 ambulances.

The toll is the worst from Palestinian rocket attacks in months.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned last week that Israel would "without hesitation and without pity" launch counterstrikes against militants who fire rockets from the Gaza Strip, which has been under the control of the Islamist movement Hamas since June.

Militants in Gaza regularly fire rockets and mortar rounds at Israel and while most fall in open spaces, some strike populated areas and have occasionally caused casualties.

Israel has been unable to stamp out rocket fire from Gaza, despite launching pinpoint air strikes and regular incursions into the crowded and impoverished territory from where it withdrew settlers and soldiers in 2005 after a 38-year presence.

“.....from where it withdrew settlers and soldiers in 2005 after a 38-year presence.”

For some reason I just thought that needed repeating.

Not with elephant the liberal coward in charge.

Probably means elephant will apologize and give up more Israeli land. Maybe displace some more Israelis and the Palis can ruin more greenhouses.

Sounds like an act of war to me. The response should be unrelenting and decisive.

Land for peace never works. Never has and never will.

I can’t for the life of me understand why Olmert is still in charge.

This guy seems hell bent on destroying Israel and handing everything to the Arabs.

Hello???? Is anyone awake over there?????

Similar thoughts here. We (FReepers) knew what was going to happen but damned if the Israeli Admin. or our Foggy Bottom did. They’re just going to have to reclaim the Gaza by evicting the reject peaceniks.

Who the he!! is supplying these rockets? Who is supplying all the explosives that are injuring and killing our soldiers with IED’s? The Israel needs to go after the rocket suppliers as we need to go after those that supply our enemies. Supplier and bomber are equally culpable.

Is Olmert a kissing cousin to Pelosi or is it Schumer or is it Kerry or is it Kennedy or is it Reid?

Ultimately it is the Stinky Bear, and his squinty eyed cousin, using the rabtards as puppets.

“Get Olmert out and get a real kickass leader in and this stuff will stop”

Are you sure? When Condi flies over there and steps in front of the Israeli troops (at the Presidents’ instruction) the action will be over. Merkel and Putin will be in the background yelling “Go Girl”.

Whew, another “crisis” avoided. Team World Police saves more innocent mussies.

Could be us. Maybe some demolition charges we supplied in the 60 million or so we gave the Pali’s to help their “Police”.

When I was a kid I smacked a hornets nest hanging from a branch with a stick one time.

The response I got taught me to never walk up and smack a hornets nest again.

Does anyone else understand the correlation of that story and what just happened???
