Just WOW. I gave up watching Bill O on a regular basis, but reading some of the comments on this thread made me think I should watch the re-broadcast of the Ron Paul segement for myself. To anyone who hasn’t seen it, please do try to catch it; watching RP dodge questions, spout ideas that can only be called lunatic, and squirm and dart his eyes every couple of seconds, was frightening to see. In a sane world he couldn’t be elected dog-catcher. That he’s convinced thousands to vote him into Congress, and more thousands think he should be the leader of the US, is even more frightening.

“He also went on to say he does not support the Afghanistan war now.”

This man is not qualified for the seat he holds much less the Republican nomination for the Presidency of the United States. FGS is no one on his staff sane enough to see the embarrassment that is Ron Paul?

It’s really sad when ‘conservatives’ have to resort to 95% name calling to try to ‘make’ their ‘point’. And it’s a wonder we haven’t had a conservative agenda at the front in congress sine ‘94. /sigh. I expect Rs will lose another 5-6 senate seats and another 30 house seats in ‘08 primarily to people like you and the current Republicans in office. I plan on going almost all oversees with my investments by October of next year. God help us.

There is a great story about a member of the House of Representives, who voted against the War of 1812 and lost his reelection.

In the Mexican-American war he was asked why he supported it, he stated that he had learned his lesson and now was in favor of famine, pestilence and war.

A look back into Freeper history.

Witnessing Catastrophic Victory

Self
June 14, 1999 The Man

Insanity may be stopped, but apparently there is still no cure for idiocy.

Take, for example, Cold Bastard Bill, Mad Cow Madeline, Tinny Tony, and the rest of the gang that couldn’t bomb straight.

They bomb the bejabbers out of innocent civilians, children’s hospitals and stray foreign embassies. After months of this, all they accomplish is to get their arch enemy to agree to terms that he had previously agreed to. This of course, they duly characterize as the greatest and noblest victory of all time, unique in the annals of the military history of the human race.

But just as they were breaking out the champaigne on the way to breaking their arms patting themselves on the back, reality started rearing its ugly head. And although we still have not seen the full and gory extent of its hideousness, the outlines of its horrors are becoming clear. The catastrophic victory this evil bunch has inflicted upon us is even worse than what I had imagined and predicted. And now because the Congress once again failed in its duty to the country and the Constitution, there seems to be nothing we can do except sit by and watch the farce play out into tragedy.

So, sit back, watch carefully (if you can bear to watch)and take notes as the unchecked idiocy works its natural course through Yugoslavia. But as you watch, do not think that the play will necessarily be confined to the stage. For the danger may very well leap out to strike the audience as well.

Now that they have breached national sovereignty in pursuit of imposing their own will and morality upon anyone they damn well feel like, they may very well decide to try it on somebody who can and will shoot back. On the other hand, the likelihood of this is probably remote in light of the cowardice displayed in this engagement.

But having made the decision to be lawless, they have put the world on notice of their danger to the rest of the sovereign nations that inhabit planet Earth. And the combination of their cowardly and bullying behaviour can only result in other nations coming to the conclusion that they can and should develope the means and will to resist us.

No longer is the word of America good and the actions and principles of its alliances noble and defensive. No longer can any rational nation count it in its best interest to forego military means of defense in order to remain under our security umbrella. Tattered and lying in ashes is the original vision of President Bush for a New World Order in which America would lead the world by a combination of military and economic strength and diplomatic reputation for integrity, commitment to principles of international law, a respect and willingness to uphold national sovereignty while encouraging the development of democracy. In its place is a new, darker, and malevolent vision, a vision of de facto one world government. And this government will not bound by any inconveniences posed by law, constitutions, or even traditional moral and common sense ethical principles. No, this new New World Order is to be ruled only by the morality of Bill Clinton and those who think like him and support him.

The question is still undecided. Will Clinton and the gang that couldn’t bomb straight manage to lay the foundations for The Beast of one world government tyranny, or will they be stopped, internally or much worse, externally? I leave this question to the future, and will only point out the near to mid term danger, the danger that this gang will continue to believe their own propaganda and try this type of misadventure again.

But enough of the big picture, for there is, after all, still hope for it.

The same can not be said for the latest developements on the ground of Kosovo.

Consider the best case scenario, that against all odds, it will turn out like Bosnia, where the only thing separating all out war among the ethnic groups is the fact that our soldiers are sitting between them for the rest of the foreseeable future.

I am sorry, but to quote Twisted Sister, a one album wonder in the 1980s, “If that’s your best, your best won’t do.” I am not very thrilled about the prospect of our soldiers taking tours of duty sitting on a powderkeg. We neither want nor need another Bosnia.

And yet, it is already clear that we will not be so lucky, and that Kosovo will not be like Bosnia. Quagmire is not going to be an adequate description of this FUBAR situation.

Put yourself in the shoes of the hapless American G.I. ordered into Kosovo by the TRIMPOTUS. You have to keep in line the murderous KLA terrorists, your former allies. At the same time, you have to worry about Serb partisans taking a few potshots. Furthermore, there are the Russians sitting there in what was supposed to be your headquarters, and they are not answering to anyone. But if you get in their hair or try to chase down some Serb who has just been shooting at you into their territory, you risk a major international incident with a nuclear power still capable of destroying America with a first or even second strike.

So there you sit, with every citizen you meet a potential assasin trying to blow you away, trying to police people who will turn against each other and you at any and every opportunity. Your gear will be stolen the second you turn your head, your government will not supply or support you adequately, your chain of command doesn’t have the slightest clue of what is going on or apparently value your life, and your hands will be tied with rules of engagement that will end up allowing you to be killed with relative ease and impunity.

And so in the next couple of weeks we will continue to see the following: Serbs killing Albanians, Albanians killing Albanians, Serbs killing NATO troops, Albanians killing NATO troops, NATO troops killing Albanians and Serbs in order to get them to get along, Serbs running behind the lines of the Russian troops for protection, Albanians killing Russian troops and Russian troops killing Albanians, and finally NATO troops desperately trying to avoid killing Russian troops.

The shooting has already started. By the time it is all said and done, we will end up with many times more casualties of the catastrophic peace than of the ill conceived war itself. And most likely, so will every other party in the long run. As could be predicted, the Purple Hearts and the body bags will not be needed for the war, but for the peace.

And for what? In the best case scenario, since we have already helped him accomplish significant de facto ethnic cleansing by our misguided bombing, all we will do is accomplish Milosovec’s long term aims for him by defanging and dismantling the KLA, if we are able and willing to pay the price to do it.

On the other hand, Slobo may be toppled and replaced by a new coalition of an even more hard core nationalist Serb government, swept to power by promises of driving us out of Kosovo. The Serbian military is still intact, and now, they actually have an enemy within striking distance.

They may strike, they may not. But the fact is that we are no longer bombing them safely from afar. We are on the ground. We are right in front of them. And this time, we will be the ones with the targets on our chests.

And so the ground war we all feared will happen under the guise of being the ground peace. Only this time, the Russians are also on the ground and most of our fighting will be probably done with our supposed allies.

There is indeed no cure for idiocy. All that can be done is to remove the idiots from positions of power before they do something dangerous. We have not done that, and now, we will begin paying the ultimate price: the lives of our sons and daughters.

Comments like these were common...Every aspect of our “European Adventure” was parsed through the view of a “wag the dog” War. Almost everyone here wanted our troops home from Somilia...Africa...Balklands...Europe.

Were we not supporting our troops?

Were we cut and runners then?

If this “war on terror” wasn’t a farce our borders would have been secured the day after 9/11. We wouldn’t be allowing foriegn trucks into our country and allowing record visa applications from the Middle East through our State Dept.

Pakistan is a bigger threat to this country then Iran.

Ron Paul is right. We have created a grease fire in the oily mideast with our past foriegn policy. And continuing these policies will make us less safe...

The Israel Resolution
by Ron Paul

Before the U.S. House of Representatives, July 20, 2006

I rise in opposition to this resolution, which I sincerely believe will do more harm than good.

I do agree with the resolution’s condemnation of violence. But I am convinced that when we get involved in foreign conflicts and send strong messages, such as this resolution will, it ends up expanding the war rather than diminishing the conflict, and that ultimately comes back to haunt us.

Mr. Speaker, I follow a policy in foreign affairs called non-interventionism. I do not believe we are making the United States more secure when we involve ourselves in conflicts overseas. The Constitution really doesn’t authorize us to be the policemen of the world, much less to favor one side over another in foreign conflicts. It is very clear, reading this resolution objectively, that all the terrorists are on one side and all the victims and the innocents are on the other side. I find this unfair, particularly considering the significantly higher number of civilian casualties among Lebanese civilians. I would rather advocate neutrality rather than picking sides, which is what this resolution does.

Some would say that there is no room to talk about neutrality, as if neutrality were a crime. I would suggest there should be room for an open mind to consider another type of policy that may save American lives.

I was in Congress in the early 1980s when the US Marines were sent in to Lebanon, and I came to the Floor before they went, when they went, and before they were killed, arguing my case against getting involved in that conflict.

Ronald Reagan, when he sent the troops in, said he would never turn tail and run. Then, after the Marines were killed, he had a reassessment of the policy. When he wrote his autobiography a few years later after leaving the Presidency, he wrote this.

Perhaps we didn’t appreciate fully enough the depth of the hatred and the complexity of the problems that made the Middle East such a jungle. Perhaps the idea of a suicide car bomber committing mass murder to gain instant entry to Paradise was so foreign to our own values and consciousness that it did not create in us the concern for the marines’ safety that it should have.

In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believe the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If there would be some rethinking of policy before our men die, we would be a lot better off. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today.

It is very easy to criticize the Government of Lebanon for not doing more about Hezbollah. I object to terrorism committed by Hezbollah because I am a strong opponent to all violence on all sides. But I also object to the unreasonable accusations that the Government of Lebanon has not done enough, when we realize that Israel occupied southern Lebanon for 18 years and was not able to neutralize Hezbollah.

Mr. Speaker, There is nothing wrong with considering the fact that we don’t have to be involved in every single fight. That was the conclusion that Ronald Reagan came to, and he was not an enemy of Israel. He was a friend of Israel. But he concluded that that is a mess over there. Let me just repeat those words that he used. He said, he came to the conclusion, “The irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there.’’ I believe these words are probably more valid now even than when they were written.
