A Minnesota man is upset over a memorial being built for those who died on United Flight 93.
Tom Burnett Sr. said the proposed memorial is full of Islamic symbols and does not want his son’s name to be a part of it. His son, Tom Burnett Jr., died aboard flight 93 when it crashed in Pennsylvania.
Tom Burnett Sr. said the memorial looks like a giant mosque with Islamic symbols such as a crescent shape around the point of impact that looks similar to the crescents featured on flags of heavily Islamic countries.
The superintendent of the memorial said such claims are based on faulty assumptions. Paul Murdoch, the architect of the memorial, explained in a letter that "the design will continue to develop."
Tom Burnett Sr. said the architect has changed the design several times to camouflage the symbols.
"I see what I saw in August 2005," he said. "It's still there and it's tainted beyond the point where we can do anything but throw it out and start over."
If changes aren't made, Tom Burnett says he will demand that his son's name be taken off of the memorial.
First the artist says the claims are based on faulty assumptions but that the design is developing.

Thanks for the information and links. It is the NAME of the memorial, “Crescent of Embrace” that is key here. What person with an ounce of historical or religious knowledge would use that symbol in the name of such a memorial?
At first I thought the father was stretching it, but now, with the name and the picture together, yeah, this is like putting a swastika in Auschwitz. Maybe I will get banned for that one, but heck, the logic fits.

I thought this was taken care of a few years back, but perhaps its back on the drawing board. In that case, I vote that freepers and others buy a lot across the street, and make a real memorial. Everyone can go there, and totally ignore the offical one.
A sculpture of Eleanor Roosevelt had to be redesigned because the woman wore “politically incorrect” fox furs. Now the sculpture wears a boring coat. So we rewrite history for modern “correctness”.
This memorial appears to be a symbol. Not a real memorial. So find a new designer!!! A red crescent shape doesn’t cut it!
The families need to be on board for any design selected!
