How good is PGP protection for laptops? We have it on our work laptops and have been repeatedly warned and threatened to NOT forget our password as recovering it or resetting it is a near impossibility.
Chloe O'Brien could break that encryption in her sleep.
Answer: If he's a politician, the odds are 99 to 1 that he is a crook.
I want the $10.00 I bundled and sent to him back if he can not post armed guards 24/7 .
“All the computers are password-enabled and the hard drives are encrypted. The only thing they’re good for is parts.”

[not sarcasm]
“Yep, they contained all sorts of top secret info, such as what position Romney was taking next week on key issues.”
LOL.
Ted Kennedy (of all people) nailed Romney by calling him “multiple-choice Mitt” or somesuch.
Makes Jon Carey look consistent.
I checked :-/
Again I note, Mitt receives a lot of attention for a guy who allegedly can't win.
It is to be expected.
Did you hear the latest gaffes?
Rudy: Being an illegal alien is not a crime.
Fred: Osama, if captured, needs “due process”.
WTH are these guys doing? Do they want to win the primary?
I knew Fred had some serious issues. Now we know what they are. Osama needs due process. All I can say is that attorneys know how to fund their retirements. Ghouliani mutters about being illegal is not a crime? Yikes. I know it is civil, but that sound bite is crushing. Most voters do not want to know the niceties of the legal system. They want their cities back.
Was there tape on the lock? Where’s Liddy?
That remark was pure political suicide.
Fred: Osama, if captured, needs due process.
Really??!!! I think we need to hear more from Fred, unscripted, LOL. On one of the Fox shows they had a former CIA guy who said Osama needed to be killed on site if found. No questions asked. I agree.
Several Democrats I know are more worried about Romney than any of the other Republican candidates. I am not accusing Hillary.
Bttt!
~”You can get software on the internet that will break standard encryption packages and break into computers with passwords.”~
The new generation of TPM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module) and related technologies are pretty good. The NSA might be able to break them, but your regular hacker wouldn’t have the resources.
Companies use this technology all the time on sensitive computers. There’s no indication of whether Romney’s camp was using this particular technology, but it’s not very expensive or difficult.
~”How good is PGP protection for laptops?”~
At this point, it pretty much takes a super computer to break PGP. In a few years, computing power will have advanced enough that the power will be within hackers’ reach.
The only recourse for a hacker today is to build up a botnet and send the cracking job out to it - that is, they have to compromise a few thousand computers out there, and send small pieces of the cracking task to them. Even then, it can take weeks or months to finally break the encryption, and the hacker risks getting caught. Hacker’s generally don’t have this kind of resource that they’re willing to use on decrypting a hard drive.
It’s a pretty safe bet that, if campaign’s data was encrypted, it’s not compromised.
Again I note, Mitt receives a lot of attention for a guy who allegedly can’t win.
I say: you are absolutely right. Look, Mitt Romney is the cream, and the cream always rises.
We do have a great bunch of guys to choose from though, unlike the unlucky Democrats. ;)
