LONDON — Tens of thousands of immigrant workers will be forced to learn English before they are allowed into Britain under a plan Prime Minister Gordon Brown is expected to announce tomorrow in a speech to the Trades Union Congress in Brighton, informed sources revealed yesterday.
The rules, expected to reduce the number of people entering Britain by at least 35,000 a year, will affect those from countries outside the European Union who are seeking to work and settle permanently in Britain.
"Those who we welcome into the UK to work and settle here need to understand our traditions and feel that they are part of our shared national culture," Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said. "They need to integrate into our country, learn English and use our language."
Mr. Brown's aides said the initiative will form a "key plank" of the Labor Party government's new policy on immigration. It will be seen as another shift to the right following the prime minister's moves to block supercasinos and to review the decision to reclassify cannabis as a less dangerous drug.
The new policy will present opposition leader David Cameron with a dilemma: If he attacks Mr. Brown's plan, he risks once again angering his "core support" among right-of-center voters. Mr. Cameron is trying to reposition the Conser-vatives as a modern, compassionate party and has shied from referring to immigration.

Interesting, but I recall an article here lately which found net emigration from England, even with the “Asian” influx. People where especially headed toward Commonwealth countries like Australia, a lesser number to the US. I will try to dig that article up. Interesting juxtaposition.
Nothing like brevity, especially when it is devastatingly to the point.
The problem is, even if a liberal government has had the scales fall from its eyes and realizes the realm is in grave peril, it is so constrained by political correctness that it cannot decisively act to save it. The threat comes not from non English speaking immigrants but from one religion (Muslim) and primarily one race (Arab). But the taboo is inviolate -it is after all the very rationalization for failed liberalism- that no politician, especially on the left, dares trespass. Racism and, to a lesser extent (especially when applied to Christianity), religious bigotry, are these absolute taboos.
So, the left, trying to save the nation, opts for euphemism. No wonder it is "too little, too late."

That is the Cal Thomas article which states that between 2005 and 2006, 200,000 Brits (presumably native) left Britain while nearly three times that number gained entry to Britain from presumably non-EU countries.
I am not surprised by PM Brown’s actions, though I suspect it neither gets at the real problem. The real problem is on display in a photo one or two posts above this one. (The protestor with the sign seems very fluent in English already.)
Most of the Muslims in Britain are of Pakistani extraction, and if you recall, a majority of past terrorists from Britain were either Pakistani immigrants who had decent jobs and were well-versed with the English language, or were British-born Pakistani/Muslim citizens to begin with.
Too little, too late.
Language is not the problem. Islam is.
Crime, especially with knives but guns too, are rampant. The majority of the violent crimes and personal property crimes are by the “imports”, including the second generation of the imports children.
There are now ghettos of mostly Is-Lamic imports and their descendent's in many cities and the crime rate in those areas is staggering for Britain. Add that to the long term problem of Irish travelers and Gypsies in their mobile caravans of crime and the “hoodie” street culture (really imported American gansta rap filth) of the young and you have what seems to the average citizen as a societal meltdown.
The bottom line is, what you hear from the average Brit is 180 degrees opposite from what you hear/read from the politicians and the media, and the average citizen is getting fed up very quickly. The tired old excuses and Liberal lies from the pols and media that enable and promote such activities are RAPIDLY being exhausted and seen for the garbage they are.
Heres to hoping for a British rebirth.

Crime rates in the cities have tripled in a decade. While a lot of it is down to our native estate (projects) dwelling pond life, there is an ever - growing refugee population, mainly from Somalia, Afganistan, Albania, among other third world toilets, who don’t seem able to control their children.
Socialists in the UK continuously tell us that mass immigration is good for the economy and without it the economy would collapse / there would be a plague of locusts / the earth would catch fire etc.
Funny they also say that these immigrants are all doctors, dentists, engineers, accountants and all, but most of them still seem to be on walfare and unable to speak english donkey’s years after they arrived here.
But hey, don’t take too much notice of what I say. I’m just a mean spirited callous Nazi, apparently.
Around 50% + of UK citizens who have emigrated over the past decade have returned to the UK. It is quite a complex picture.
