I used to explain to my sons that we were red headed with freckles because we were Phoenicians.
In fact, I think my son put on the 2000 census form that he was Phoenician and Mongolian. I told them that they were Mongolian because their dad has high cheek bones, that fold thingie Asians have and very straight hair. His ancestors are from Switzerland.
