These pictures show it was clearly a cleaning accident. Granted, I wouldn't have used a screwdriver to clean the monument, but hey, that's just me. If it wasn't a cleaning accident, I am pretty sure it was done by one of those Freepers or Eagles in order to cast aspersions on the patriotic Americans who only want the best for our military and our country. You know...the folks like these:
For the purposes of propriety, I will leave out the picture of the protestor defecating on a burning American flag. I am sure he just really had to go.
