Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) "defiantly declared Friday that he will not retire from Congress despite increasing Republican concern that if he runs for a 10th term next year, the seat could fall to Democratic challenger Charlie Brown," the Sacramento Bee reports.
Said Doolittle: "I will not step aside. I am running again. Period."

When John Doolittle was first elected, he was a conservative reformer in the best sense of the word. Remember his work in The Gang Of Seven? But now, he’s become the very thing he once worked against, an entrenched insider with an overwhelming sense of entitlement. It’s time to send him home.

He probably went to D.C. and saw that it could not be reformed. So he joined the special interests himself, like 80 percent of his colleagues.

The ability to tell when one has changed into what they earlier ran against is not present in all people, for some reason. Too bad, even tho it seems to be par for the course, for most in DC, anyway.. except for FReepers and those who have a clue. ;-)

I will bet he will not run if he is told in no uncertain terms that he will not receive any support. That if he does not decide to retire in thirty days he will be stripped of his committee assignments and be removed from the Republican caucus. We are sick of stupid dorks making stupid mistakes and unlike the Dem’s getting caught. We lost to many seats to this garbage and we are not losing any more. Doolittle you are slime! Get out of Congress now!

And we’re STILL stuck on stupid. This kind of lunacy is why we may fail to win back the House, infinitely doable, next year. I’m beginning to wonder if we deserve to. We need to grow up, something we haven’t done since 1994.

Exactly.
Hopefully, the GOP will coalesce behind one of his announced primary opponents.

For most conservatives there is a fundamental faith in the wisdom of our founding fathers and the famous maxim of Justice White in Coffin v US.
I can only hope that the several magpies on this thread, screeching from the safety of a nearby utility pole, are given that benefit before sentence is passed on their actions.
My patience, however, is wearing very thin from their cumulative juvenile, vitriolic nonsense.

Time to settle on ONE primary opponent to take him out.

CA voters have done funnier things than elect someone named “Charlie Brown”, I would imagine.

He needs to step aside so that weasel Charlie Brown won’t take the seat. Doolittle almost lost what is virtually a guranteed conservative district in the last election.

an entrenched insider with an overwhelming sense of entitlement What did Doolitle do, specifically, that makes you characterize him this way?

Doolittle you are slime! Get out of Congress now! Why is Doolittle "slime"? Please be specific and give me something other than Democrat rhetoric.

AMEN. Send him home along with a 7/8 of the Congress. What is it about Doolittle that you find offensive? His record? Anything specific?

Using his office to enrich himself.
There are plenty of other good Republicans who can represent the district. If Doolittle is the nominee and loses the general election, we all lose.

Jack Abramoff employed Doolittle’s wife while Doolittle was passing laws designed to benefit Abramoff.
Also, what if Doolittle is the nominee but loses the general election? Do you really think it’s worth the risk?
