Great timing by the Thompson campaign. This will cost Rudy a lot of votes.

Thompson’s campaign is pounding this. Great timing by Fred. They were given a gift by Rudy and Thompson’s campaign seized the opportunity.

Can’t wait to see the eventual ads that will appear.

New York City is New York City is New York City. Guliani is proving himself to be little more than a taller, more credible, more appealing, Koch/Bloomberg.

Giuliani is absolutely disgusting.

How in the world can he say that being ILLEGAL,,,,Rudy, the operative word there is ILLEGAL,,,,is NOT a crime. He can do his legal Clintonesque legal parsing with his Rudy-Apologists!

Nothing like SELECTIVE enforcement of the law from a LIBERAL!!! Unbelievable.

Rudy can take a hike!!

Rudy Giuliani in an interview yesterday on the Glenn Beck program asserted that illegal immigration is not a crime and should not be a crime!

It is a crime, but it's only a misdemeanor. This is not true of some of the other things illegal aliens do as a matter of course, such using fraudulent social security numbers/cards, driving without insurance or proof of fiscal responsibility, driving while intoxicated, and many others.

It is a crime but...

The penalty for a first offense is up to six months in jail or prison and/or a fine of $50 to $250. But the charge is rarely used, even when people are caught at the border, according to a Congressional Research Service report on May 3. Most are deported or allowed to leave the U.S. voluntarily to avoid overwhelming courts and detention centers, the report said.

Applying the misdemeanor offense in the interior of the U.S. is even rarer, the report said. The most common charge against those caught without authorization in the U.S. is "unlawful presence," a civil offense. The penalty is removal, and an immigrant can be detained in the meantime.

The report said illegal entry is difficult to prosecute in the interior because it must be proved, not just inferred, that the person entered illegally.

Rudy just (unknowingly) dropped out of the race with that position on illegal immigration.

He follows “Amnesty John” and Lindsey Graham into a steep nosedive with the GOP.

Doesn’t he know how most Americans feel about this subject, particularly Republicans.

IT IS TIME TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BORDER SECURITY, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO BREAK THE LAW or are members of gangs, etc...

Republicans if they are Republicans will not offer up a candidate for the job of President of the United States who does not know the difference between legal and illegal.

The whole of our constitutional agreement with those who govern us is predicated on the inviolate concept of legality.

If the Republican Party mandates a candidate who ignores this fundamental aspect of our agreement with those who are to govern, then to hell with the Republican Party.

and should not be a crime!

So, invasion is a civil right?

The ChiComs will be happy to hear that.

I'm sure a few hundred million "immigrants" from them will do the trick quite nicely.

The trick being how to take over a country without firing a shot.

Its about time someone running for the GOP nomination starts calling out Rooty Toot for his liberalism.

FredT started with the gun rights issue. Now he’s challenging Rooty Toot on his liberal immigration stance. Can’t wait to hear FredT challenge Rooty on his support for abortion on demand.

Go FRed go!

Rudy did nothing more than accurately state the law on ILLEGAL PRESENCE. He was not talking about ILLEGAL ENTRY, which is a misdemeanor on the first offense.

Tancredo also opposes criminalizing illegal presence and says most Republicans voted against doing so. As tempting as it sounds to criminalize everyone who is in the country illegally, it would actually make it harder to get them out of here.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and get the facts. Criminalizing illegal presence sounds good till you find out what it really means. Think of all the protections that our criminal justice system gives to crooks and you’ll start to get the idea of the kind of disaster it could be.

"Right now, illegal presence in the USA is not a crime; it is a civil infraction. The House Judiciary Committee voted to make it a felony but then was counseled that millions of new felons could clog our courts." - Tom Tancredo

Does anyone here have proof that the above is not true? Let's hear it.
