I imagine those who made the decision didn’t want their pantywaist buddies at cocktail parties to behind their backs call them “jingoistic” or accuse them of saber-rattling, “disambiguating” the moral symbolism of the US armed forces, or in any other way doing something that could be construed as even tacit support of America, nor especially the American military - in any context whatsoever.
