((((MINDEN, Nev., Sept. 7 — To the locals, it is known as “that ranch.” Most have never set foot on it, kept out by warning signs and careful surveillance....

The Flying-M Ranch is a million-acre spread owned by the hotel magnate William Barron Hilton about 90 miles southeast of Reno. Mr. Hilton, whose granddaughters Paris and Nicky are now more famous than he, is a 79-year-old outdoors enthusiast with a penchant for playing host to his many celebrity friends.))))

Puts an interesting spin--Fossett was to be the guest of Paris Hilton's grandpa at a "Lifestyles of the Rich and Annoying" gathering.

and boring and middle-income people are risking their lives in the heat and weather to find Fossett.

Gee, do you think they would do the same for little ol’ you?

“Gee, do you think they would do the same for little ol’ you?”

Heh heh.

I had exactly the same thought when Kennedy Jr. drove his Piper into the Atlantic. I rather doubt that I would have rated a Coast Guard Cutter and a naval recovery vessel to aquire my remains.

The more likely scenario would be a tire washing up on the beach being an adequate indication of my demise. Yes, you or I would simply have been chum that night, and definitely unrecovered.

But you and I are not nearly important enough to have that sort of effort expended by the government. It does seem odd that a mangled carcass would be accorded the same importance of a religious (political?) icon.

If memory serves me, the corpse was cremated, and the ashes spread in the Atlantic (!?!?!?!). Seems like a lot of trouble considering the final result was essentially the same.

I hope I never get as jaded and cynical as you.

“I hope I never get as jaded and cynical as you.”

I merely comment on what is, not on what you or I wish the world might be.

I’ll take your comment as a compliment though. This pilot is “jaded and cynical” by lifelong training and experience.

Good luck!

Funny that. They are volunteers. Last I knew that is part of the American Spirit.

I should have learned basket weaving, although there will be someone around here claiming it is too risky. Next thing you know they’ll be complaining about heart attack patients who ate cheeseburgers or pizza.

“They are volunteers. Last I knew that is part of the American Spirit.”

On the contrary. CAP aside, the Air Force is already operating C-130’s on the search. The CAP (and the C-130 crews) are to be commended of course.

It is fascinating to reflect on the number of national defense assets that become involved when a celebrity is involved.

Hope they find him.

The Civil Air Patrol does the same for any missing aircraft.

I’ve flown many a mission, have several finds, and one save.

I would not expect less. Fossett probably has more volunteers assisting in the search because he is affable, unlike the hand wringing whiners who are slinging mud in the Fossett threads.

Yep. They will not search as hard for the rest of us bug smasher pilots that is certain.

We had some folks go into the ocean off the coast of Carlsbad not too long ago. No explaination for the crash.

I don’t see the USS Grapple coming out to fish the wreckage or the remaining unrecovered body of the pilot.

And finding out why they crashed I think is important for the rest of us.

Oh well.

Nothing against Fosset, but it is obvious the search for him is more aggressive and will go on longer.

you and I are not nearly important enough to have that sort of effort expended by the government.

You insult the memory of the men killed — one a federal mine safety inspector — trying to rescue the Utah coal miners. Few occupations are lower on the ol' social ladder then coal miner, yet we all saw massive efforts to find them and save them. You missed a tremendous opportunity to shut up.

Paris Hilton has a sister not a brother as far as I know. The nickname for Nicole is spelled Nikki not Nicky. Nicky spelled N-i_c_k_y, is short for Nicolas. I just wanted to let you know. Therefore Nicole Hilton goes by her nickname, Nikki.

“trying to rescue the Utah coal miners”

Wrong thread.

I think it would be gracious for Paris's grandpa to pay the bill for this search, since it was at the behest of his extravaganza of entertainment that Fossett ended up missing.

Wrong response. Since you stated that only important people have that sort of effort expended by the government...how does the extraordinary and fatal rescue efforts for the Utah coal miners make sense?
