Iran blasts Israeli 'violation of Syrian airspace'

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran condemned the intrusion this week of Israeli aircraft into Syrian airspace, calling it shameful and provocative, Iranian media reported on Friday.

They quoted foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini as saying: "This shameful and provocative act aims at carrying the crises and internal problems outside the (Israeli) frontiers and creating insecurity in the region."

Iran is Syria's main regional ally, and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki phoned his Syrian counterpart, Walid Muallem, to express Tehran's solidarity with Damascus.

Syria said on Thursday that its air defences opened fire on Israeli warplanes which had violated its airspace at dawn that day.

"Enemy Israeli planes penetrated Syrian airspace from the Mediterranean Sea heading towards the northeast, breaking the sound barrier," a Syrian army spokesman told the official SANA news agency.

"Our air defences repulsed them and forced them to leave... after the Israeli planes dropped munitions, without causing human or material loss," he said, without giving further information on what exactly was dropped.

The Jewish state refused any comment.

Of course Iran doesn't want Israel probing Iranian anti-aircraft weapons in Syria.

It’s a little hypocritical of Iran complaining about Israel flying into Syrian airspace when Iran has it’s own Revolutionary guards units going into Iraq causing mayhem and shelling on the border and inside Iraq with their artillery rounds.

Re: Of course Iran doesn't want Israel probing Iranian anti-aircraft weapons in Syria.

Seems I recall, once before Israel sent some drones into the Bekaa Valley when Syrian troops and radars were stationed there some 25 years ago in Operation Peace for Galilee.

Then before you knew it, Israeli jets took on Syrian anti-air missiles knowing how to defeat their radars with the final score being 80 Syrian jets splashed to zero Israeli jets. Believe the F-15 made their bones there...

Hope history is repeating itself!

“Syrian Air force did not challenge the incoming planes.....”

They value their lives too highly. Besides, they have the UN, the Democrats and the American mainstream media to do their bidding.

From the article. “Syria said on Thursday that its air defences opened fire on Israeli warplanes which had violated its airspace at dawn that day”

It seems that they did challenge them, just unsuccessfully.

I understand that the Syrian Navy wants all of their ships to have glass bottoms...so that they can all look at the Syrian Air Force if they challenge the Israli AF.....

I wonder if we could loan the Israelis a B-52 from Minot with six ALCMs each with a 150 kiloton nuke activated and ready to launch for their next foray over the terrorist sponsoring nation of Syria? Those six nukes would take out all of the terrorist training camps and reduce the population of Syrians available for killing Israelis, Kurds, Iraqis, and Lebonese.

I doubt the jamokes at Minot will notice the B-52 or the ALCMs or the nukes were missing.
