A political row has broken out in Switzerland over a campaign poster from the right-wing Swiss People's Party, aimed at deporting foreigners - residents without Swiss citizenship - who commit crimes.

The poster, which shows three white sheep kicking a black sheep against a backdrop of the Swiss flag, --snip-- Swiss citizenship remains very difficult to come by, and being born in the country does not give the children or even grandchildren of immigrants the right to be Swiss

BBC spin ... this is the largest party in Switzerland and has support from a majority of people. There has been no fluff-up from citizens of any note - only in the BBC’s mind.

Not exactly a controversial position. Shouldn't be, at least.

The Swiss have always been fussy about who gets in to stay.

They’ve also been fussy about standing up to Nazi scum. While Switzerland is an absolutely beautiful country and the people seem nice, I’ve never forgotten their indifference during WWII. That should have been the strongest case of “you’re either with us or against us” that I’ve seen in the past 100 years.

To Itsa,

The Swiss weren’t exactly indifferent, were they? It was to the Allies’ huge advantage to have a haven for pilots and others in the center of Europe during the entire war. Thousands of political refugees made their way to Switzerland and were given sanctuary. That the Swiss made some accomodations to the Germans was the quid pro quo for their neutrality. Principally, the Nazis got to run trains through the Alps without interference. BUT, the Swiss convinced the Nazis to NOT GET OFF THE TRAINS or the tunnels would be blown.

There’s no love lost between Germans and Swiss to this day.

In my opinion.

From the article: Meanwhile the United Nations special rapporteur on racial discrimination, Doudou Diene from Senegal, has asked the Swiss government for an official explanation of the campaign.

The name "Doudou" is racist.

The US remained out of that war until we were directly attacked on 12-7-1941 and American Communists like Pete Seger and Woody Gutherie protested AGAINST going to war against Nazi Germany until Hitler betrayed Joseph Stalin (and Seger wouldn’t admit for another 40 years that Stalin was a tyrant).

The Communists weren’t anti-Fascist (and Gutherie’s guitar didn’t do ANYTHING to kill Fascism until it was poltically popular to do so).

The American Taliban used the nickname Doo Doo when he was in the online forums (and he pretended to be a black DJ).

This was a good article. The statistics were astounding. Foreigners make up about 8.7% of Switzerland’s population but make up more than 60% of the prison population there. It seems that crime has soared since Muslims entered the country.
