Perhaps, but why not take the laptop as well? It would be a potential gold mine of opposition research.

What makes you think they didn't copy her hard disk? That can be done pretty quickly if you have the right tools.

Taking the laptop would've raised the crime to grand theft. There's good reason to keep this looking petty. --S.
