Maiden would be too heavy for him.
LOL I saw that MONK they haven’t been good music artist since 1990s that reason majortity of the music sucks
OTOH, Weird Al is certainly a word smith and a brilliant lyricist! LOL!
That’s good, thanks. :D
Well he sure won't find any in the post 60s Catholic Church.
I didn't know that! Cool!
And the thing about Hendrix is,, he’s the ONLY ONE of that whole lot that did serve in the military and he’s usually seen as THE BEST of the lot or at least the most musically spirited and original.
Shame Youre Beautiful was so horribly played to death though.
Oh come on, it helped me fall asleep no matter where I was...
I doubt it helped him, either. He came out of the Service, got into the Scene, and traded ideas with others. That is how music works. It's a communal and cooperative art.
There is a difference between craft and art. Craft requires skill, and can be gained with determined work; art requires inspiration, and I'm not sure it can be acquired, at least deliberately and consciously.
Singing or playing an instrument is a craft. Welding is a craft. Woodcarving is a craft. Writing is a craft. Acting is a craft. Photography is a craft. Painting is a craft. Craft is about executing a plan.
Art is about having a plan. Something you need to say. Art is about having a message, craft about the skill to say it, and both take work. Combine the two, and that's something special and rare.
The world has no shortage of artists with no skill and craftsmen with no art. I don't fault craftsmen, as long as they don't have artistic pretensions -- I am one. Show me the vision, and I'll make it happen. The world is often divided into "dreamers and doers," which I think misses the point -- without doers, the dreams of dreamers would die with them; without dreamers, doers would have no interesting things to do.
Singers and songwriters, architects and engineers, Scultors and carvers or welders, composers and orchestras, directors and cinematographers. Dreamers and doers. Whether in the same person or in a team, anything new needs both.
Maybe James Blunt is just a singer with a good voice, pitch and rhythm. A craftsman. There is no shame in that. He needs to either find his art or find an artist -- Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday were not songwriters, but they chose good songs and made them live. I assume Blunt has skils. He needs to find inspiration or find a partner. Either way works.
Mr Blunt was just making excuses for his bland, soulless music
Depends on the military.
Can you imagine how dull karaoke bars were during the Third Reich?
How many renditions of the “Horst Wessel” song could anyone stand?
I used up my quota in a previous life, I’m sure.
Just because I played baseball in high school doesn’t mean my talent level should be compared to Nolan Ryan.
Secondly, it sounds like he is making a statement of fact and the rag i.e. the magazine is distorting his statements to make for a more interesting article. Replace the word “Army” in his quote with a city or a company name. Now do you think the title of the article or its premise would be the same.
Is biased reporting at best or piss poor reporting at worst.
