1,000 more jobs leaving Michigan while Clinton, Obama and Edwards turn a blind eye
RightMichigan.com ^ | September 5, 2007

We've all heard the expression "when it rains it pours." Deep words, right? What the unnamed and unseen sage doesn't tell you, though, is that when it pours in Michigan it's probably part of a monsoon in the heart of a deep jungle type rainy season. And it's probably going to keep raining for a long long time. So grab a tree and hold on tight or else you might get blown away. Case in point... Reports started swirling late yesterday and are all over the papers this morning that Volkswagen and Audi are almost certainly, now, going to announce Thursday their plans to outsource anywhere from 1,000 to closer to 1,600 Michigan jobs. But not to Mexico or Guatemala or China. To the east coast. Of the United States.

Daniel Howes puts it very matter-of-factly in the Detroit News:

"My guess is it's 1,000 jobs that will be either moved or lost when it's all said and done," a source familiar with the details of the impending move said, adding that hundreds of customer service jobs are likely to remain behind. "The ship has sailed. It's guaranteed that they're announcing on Thursday."

But not without a last-ditch appeal by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, recently returned from an investment mission to Sweden and Germany that did not include a stop at VW's corporate headquarters in Wolfsburg.

It was during that trip to Germany that the public first learned the new VW leadership team here in the states was seriously considering an eastward move. The call went out immediately for the governor to make a stop at HQ. No dice. She was booked solid, her spokespeople said. Think now she wishes she'd cancelled a chicken dinner and made the trip?

6 semi-loads of machine tools

Where did you get them? My company was sold and our stamping plant on Detroit's east side was closed down. All the dies went back to Ford, chrysler and GM then everything else was sold at auction.......

Clemens use to be slightly conservative but now it’s a liberal zone

Not true, historically Mt. Clemens and Macomb county used to be strong democratic but over the years, prosperity moved in and the GOP took over. Bonior was from my district and after the last redistricting, he saw the handwriting on the wall and ran for governor, allowing Candice Miller to take over his job. FWIW, Miller has done an outstanding job and I think she will remain in office for a very, very long time........

Macomb county is the best run county in the state and that is due to the republican control.

If I’m not mistaken, Mt.Clemens mayor is Barb Dempsy. She and the rest of the city commission are liberal.

A few years ago there was a liberal ding bat, I can’t remember her name right now but she was a Macomb county rep before she was “redistrict” out of existence.

It’s true Macomb are a majority republican county but the Dem's are not that far behind. I think it’s only a matter of time before the whole tri-county becomes Democrat.

As more jobs are lost and the taxes going up, people are starting to move out of the state and usually those are republican leading voters. Sterling Heights wants to bring in Iraqi immigrants, which will no doubt vote for Democrats.

I just don’t see the future of Michigan looking good. There are too many Democrats in power and too many voters willing to vote them back in office.

“This can’t blamed on Bush, as no other state is going through the hardships that Michigan is.”

Don’t bet on it. I hear it every day. They still blame GWB. Keep in mind Demonrats aren’t that into personal responsibility, so blame is all they have left.

Most from Delphi, but we even bought nearly new tools from a school that was getting out of the business of teaching CNC machine technology.

Looks like Jeff Daniels commercials on Michigan are more “Dumb and Dumber” if this is the case. They lose enough people for lack of jobs, they’ll lose electoral seats as well in the next consensus. That might mean less Democrat representatives in Congress!

A Japanese doctor says, “Medicine in my country is so advanced that we
can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and have him out
looking for work in six weeks.”

A German doctor says, “That is nothing. We can take a lung out of one person,
put it in another, and have him out
looking for work in four weeks.”

A British doctor says, “In my country medicine is so advanced that we can
take half a heart out of one person, put it in another, and have both of
them out looking for work in two
weeks.”

The Canadian doctor, not to be outdone, interjected, “You guys are
way behind. We took a woman with no brains, sent her to Michigan where she
became Governor, and now half the state is out looking for work.

We’re all stuck here, with houses that can’t sell for 75% of what they sold for 5 years ago.

and yet somehow, the "value" of them keeps going up.

not quite.. there’s also alot of people in the rural areas who *should* be voting republican, as they hold almost strictly conservative values, but since they’re pro-union, they vote dem.
