1,000 more jobs leaving Michigan while Clinton, Obama and Edwards turn a blind eye

We've all heard the expression "when it rains it pours." Deep words, right? What the unnamed and unseen sage doesn't tell you, though, is that when it pours in Michigan it's probably part of a monsoon in the heart of a deep jungle type rainy season. And it's probably going to keep raining for a long long time. So grab a tree and hold on tight or else you might get blown away. Case in point... Reports started swirling late yesterday and are all over the papers this morning that Volkswagen and Audi are almost certainly, now, going to announce Thursday their plans to outsource anywhere from 1,000 to closer to 1,600 Michigan jobs. But not to Mexico or Guatemala or China. To the east coast. Of the United States.

Daniel Howes puts it very matter-of-factly in the Detroit News:

"My guess is it's 1,000 jobs that will be either moved or lost when it's all said and done," a source familiar with the details of the impending move said, adding that hundreds of customer service jobs are likely to remain behind. "The ship has sailed. It's guaranteed that they're announcing on Thursday."

But not without a last-ditch appeal by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, recently returned from an investment mission to Sweden and Germany that did not include a stop at VW's corporate headquarters in Wolfsburg.

It was during that trip to Germany that the public first learned the new VW leadership team here in the states was seriously considering an eastward move. The call went out immediately for the governor to make a stop at HQ. No dice. She was booked solid, her spokespeople said. Think now she wishes she'd cancelled a chicken dinner and made the trip?

They still vote for Granholm.

This can’t blamed on Bush, as no other state is going through the hardships that Michigan is. Debbie Stabenow remains highly unpopular there.

Most of the people left in Michigan are democrats.

But even they must have their limits. After all, look at how high Granholm’s job disapproval ratings are.

You can bet it's a non-union part of the east coast too!

“Debbie Stabenow remains highly unpopular there.”

Not really. She’s got the support of the traditional coalition groups, and she does provide great constituent services (the reason why Spence Abraham was voted out).

Michigan was swept up in the anti-republican wave two years ago. We left the state six months ago because the jobs were leaving.

Considering that the “East Coast” of the US is thousands of miles long and encompasses many states, I find it curious that the State is not identified.

All Granholm did last year was blaim Bush on all of her problems, and the people in this state still re-elected her.

My solo Michigan IT shop is virtually dead now too. I too am looking to move, since there is no work here.

Perhaps I should follow Comerica to Texas, or VWoA to DC?

I misspoke (or mis-wrote). I meant Jennifer Granholm.

My mistake.

In the area I’m in, Democrats are not only suffering from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) they are also suffering while watching the Democrats that control this state completely and utterly fail. The failure isn’t sitting well, a lot of people say “To hell with these politicians, can’t trust any of ‘em, I’m not voting” blah blah blah...

“I misspoke (or mis-wrote). I meant Jennifer Granholm.”

Ohhhh yeah.... that one is correct... one cannot find a single voter right now that will admit that they voted for her.

When she was first elected, I thought she was much better than she’s proven to be. She has failed to lead, resorting to pie-in-the-liberal-sky speaches and harsh nagging tirades aimed at the legislature.

Unfortunately, Jennifer already has a pretty good job in Michigan for the next 5 years. Her job may be the only one left by the time she’ done.

Pubbies had control of the three branches of gov for 12 years. The canuck never had those kind of votes, vetos or supreme ct decisions. She ain’t great but jobs left for mexico and china before you ever heard her name.

“Michigan was swept up in the anti-republican wave two years ago.”

No, the GOP failed us here. They talked a great show about downsizing government, lower taxes, etc. but the reality was, and is, far different. Worse yet, their last to Gov candidates were as memorable as generic vanilla ice cream, and they’ve failed to find a good candidate for Senate since Spence lost.
