Lucky I went to school before the diet police arrived. :-)
So did I.
Treats were just that, treats.
They arrived three times a year, Christmas, Valentines Day and Easter.
That was great.
Now, every kid in the class of 30 brings cupcakes for birthdays, the teachers hand out candy if a kid answers a question right, every other day is a money raiser where goodies are given out and to top it all off, gym is eliminated and recess is 10 minutes long.
If we could go back to when I was in school, it would be great for me.
Actually, I homeschool and we eat apples and PB for snack.
They want to make sure that the cupcakes don’t interfere with the psychotropic drugs that they are pumping children full of.
You know something?I WISH someone had banned that crap when I was going to school.I was a dumb kid with no nutritional sense whatsoever.I consumed the worst garbage all through school.A lemon pie, sugar cookie, greasy hamburger and milk was my lunch in high school.I swilled gallons of sodas and quarts of ice cream monthly.
I was a very sickly child as a reult and still am feeling the effects of thirty years of that “food”.
I know The State is not supposed to usurp free choice and maybe this makes me a liberal on this issue but I am GLAD Fresno banned cupcakes. Most of Fresno schoolkids are Latino and they have the highest diabetes rate of any group.MAYBE this will alleviate some health care costs in the future.
When we went to school, they actually had GYM class! In elementary school! What a concept!
Modest neighborhood, the school also had a separate cafeteria, auditorium and gym. I only remember two fat kids. That was the era when most kids had stay-at-home moms and kids could actually PLAY OUTSIDE and milk cartons didn't advertise missing children.
And video games didn't suck the brains out of bored and pudgy kiddles.
