You know, I’m not condoning that sort of thing, but does it seem to anyone else we’re losing our national sense of humor?

Shame and public scorn used to be a very effective tool for moderating behavior and instilling a little humility, especially in young people.

Now, it's a mortal sin for anyone's precious angel to "humiliated" by an authority figure. Without shame, we get shamelessness.
