At Costco they always quickly check my receipt against purchased items and then put a squiggly line through the receipt. There’s no way they check everything in my basket. I asked why they did this. It seems certain people will buy a bunch of stuff, go out to their car and unload, come right back in, load the same stuff into a cart and walk out with the same receipt. It was a two fer one sale everyday.

See post #62.

I live in Ohio and have been in that CC store a number of times. They do the receipt checking at Home Depot all the time. The guy who marks the receipt often is standing right there watching the whole transaction. This means they don't trust their cashiers.

Sometimes the checker is not at the register but they never look in the bag. I have had my receipt marked a number of times but I have rarely if ever had anyone actually look in my bag. They just want to mark the receipt.

At BJs they make the appearance of checking the 125 items in my two shopping carts full, but it is just a show.

I have a real problem with being delayed while someone looks at my receipt as if this is going to prevent theft.

My policy is, when they ask to see my receipt, I tell them to walk with me. Usually, they just reply they can't leave their spot, so I keep on walking. Works most times.

Oh, and whenever they look at my receipt, I ask them not to put any marks on it. If they use their highlighter, and assuming that I have the time, I just ask for an unmarked receipt (while standing in the door). After all, the receipt is my property too.
