WHY is Rooty Toot taking credit for it?He's taking credit for something from 2005? Really?
To: wagglebee
drop during the Rooty Toot years could have been caused by an influx of Muslims and HindusRudy benefited from what intelligent statisticians would call "favorable comparisons"....Dinkins was a moral and financial disaster in every way, so Rudy could just have been an average administrator and looked good by comparison.
As someone who's lived here for five decades, I can say Rudy is the gold standard of mayor achievement. If you prefer someone else, that's fine, but don't smear the guy who made Gotham livable again.

He's taking credit for something from 2005? Really? Rooty Toot is taking credit for lowering teen pregnancy in NYC.

Fine, I will grant you that Rooty Toot is the "gold standard" for a northeast liberal. But it's not going to sell in the rest of the country.

Then WHY is Rooty Toot taking credit for it? For the same reason any and every politician takes credit for things that occur during their watch: they have a gullible constiuency.
Why is this outfit issuing deceptive press releases?
The answer is simple - for the same reason any and every group opposed to a particular politician issues deceptive press releases: They have a gullible constiuency.

Yep, Rooty Toot got the rates down from catastrophic to mere epidemic levels.

Second, WE DON'T HAVE THE NUMBER FROM WHEN RUDY LEFT OFFICE!!! We have a report from 2005. Uh? Hello? Rudy was gone already fora couple of years. Add to that the fact that they were comparing to national numbers from 2002, and it completes the mess.
Left-wing media types begin a story with the conclusion, then fit some sloppy data in to give the appearance of factual support.

The sloppy data is what gets me. The fact is that the underlying thesis here could be true, but you can't tell from this mess. This is just a quickly done hatchet job. Sloppy is a good word for it.

Add to that the fact that they were comparing to national numbers from 2002, and it completes the mess. At least a half a dozen times, I posted the link to NYC's data from 2000 which shows essentially the same rates as in 2005. And it is statistically implausible that nationwide statistics from 2002 would be out of sync with either one.

This isn't from a left wing source.
