Another really good field is HVAC, especially the commercial side. Most bldgs. have computer controlled systems now so that skill is a must also. That could be an excellent field, because it will soon be actively integrating other aspects of building automation including lighting (theatrical as well as architectural), security/access control, elevators, fire/life-safety, energy utility interactions and more.

The systems 'learn' the indoor/outdoor conditions and start the AC systems at the optimum time to have the temperature ready for the work day, use outside air for as much of the cooling needs as possible.
What used to be pneumatic controlled is now microchip controlled.
