But you must understand that Mark Chapman was only interested in killing Lennon. His reading of Catcher in the Rye made it imperative that Lennon was the world's biggest phony, and to prevent more young people from "falling" to phoniness, the leader had to be killed.
Being the misfit that Chapman was in all other ventures, it is surprising that all bullets lodged in the intended target.
