Democrat hopeful says Sen. Craig "did the right thing."

BOSTON --Democratic presidential hopeful Bill Richardson said Saturday that Sen. Larry Craig "did the right thing" by resigning after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a gay sex sting.

The New Mexico governor recalled serving with the Idaho Republican in the House of Representatives and remembered him as a "very conservative legislator" who usually took opposite positions from Richardson.

Craig announced Saturday that he would resign on Sept. 30. He had been pressured by other Republicans to take that step out of concern for possible political damage from his arrest and plea.

"I knew Craig," Richardson said outside Fenway Park moments after arriving to watch the Boston Red Sox face the Baltimore Orioles in a night game. "I'm saddened about it, but he did the right thing.

"He couldn't possibly survive, not just the inquiry but when he pleaded guilty it was clear that he was guilty and he made the right decision."

Richardson said he and Craig dealt with each other on issues involving public lands, energy, mining and the wilderness.

"We were almost always on opposite sides," Richardson said, "but he was a decent human being and I remember him fondly. But he did the right thing (by resigning). He obviously did a terrible thing. He did what he had to do. They (the Republicans) wouldn't have kept the seat."

It is so funny to see them try to claim the moral high ground.

Reconquista Richardson, aka "The Groper", actually thinks he can tell right from wrong.

If any of these ridiculous liberal talking heads were journalists they'd have the guts to ask if Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, etc. etc. etc. ... well, you know where I'm going, and you know I'm dreaming, too.

No, Barney Franks never was picked up for secret trysts in public crappers. Poor Barney was only guilty of poor judgement by allowing his boy-toy run a gay prostitution operation out of his apartment. The only thing Ball Park Franks is guilty of is being fond of having a tenderbite weiner between his buns.

And yet Teddy Kennedy,Baaaaarrrrney Frank and Gerry Studds, among others, did the right thing by *refusing* to resign.

I'm confused,Mr Richardson.Please 'splain it to me!

Oh, the irony of Richardson saying this amidst the scum of the Mass. Democratic Party is just toooooo much to bear. Did the reporter even think to follow up with questions about Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, Gerry Studds???? It’s the “right thing” for Craig to resign (I agree with that) but the scum of the Demagogic Party all around Boston needs never take responsibility for any of THEIR misbehavior....

That was an ILLEGAL prostitution ring running out of Barney Frank’s apartment. His boy-toy was the local Madame for both sexes.

Yes, but was poor Barney the direct perp? No, a thousand times no! Barn was only getting screwed on that deal. Heck, which one of us might be a pawn in the same kind of the same thing, huh?

There was a much greater story coming out of Fenway Park tonight than this pap.

IIRC the boy-toy said that Barney knew, and made sure to always call to check in if he might be coming back to the apartment during “business” hours.

All kidding aside, I’ll bet Barney knows a lot of things most of us will never know. However, his main sins are of the overtly gay nature - not the furtive, hypocritical nature of Craig’s. Even so, Franks should have his @ss kicked, too, and not packed.

"I knew Craig," Richardson said outside Fenway Park , still looking for his draft letter.

I have a far less problem with hypocrisy than I do with calling evil good (or refusing to call it evil) in the way of Barney Frank and others of the left.

True, but Craig still takes the cake by calling evil evil and then practicing evil while pretending to be good. What is done in secret will be shouted from the housetops...

Well, Craig should certainly not be a senator, BUT if I had to have a homosexual representing me, I'd rather have one like Craig who seems to understand that it is wrong and is ashamed of it, than one like McGreevy or Frank who seem to be dang near bragging about it.

Now, if Craig comes out with a book and appears on Oprah, and says how he has found his true self and is no longer repressed and is moving in with his boyfriend etc. etc., I will put him in the complete scum, spit-on-him-in-the street category.

Right now, I don't. I figure he is a fellow who has a problem and he can't handle it. I wish him well and I hope he can get his life back together.

And, yes, it is important he is out of the Senate.

Anyway, the other point I'm making is that the left likes to claim hypocrisy as the greatest sin. It's not even close. Calling evil good is far, far, far worse.

If you follow Jesus, you are likely going to do something -- and not necessarily sexual -- sometime in your life that you have been saying is wrong. If we accept the left's claim that hypocrisy is a greater sin than speaking against evil, not one of us would ever be able to speak against evil.

There is a vast difference between simple human failing (and sin) and abusing authority and denigrating a moral trust by acting in a manner inconsistent with your public face. IMO, Franks is an evil man - no question - but he is open about it. To me, that is an evil that is easy to confront; i.e., one that has no pretense to being something else.

The left is partially correct. Hypocrisy - large and egregious hypocrisy - is far more damaging to ones claims of moral leadership than the simple sin. The left, of course, doesn't’t worry about it as one of their weaknesses because they are already open and vile about their issues and passions. They way out of the conflict is always to take the higher ground and rectify the mistakes - even if it sets you back.

Now, if straight expediency and tit-for-tat pragmatism is the game, why not just liquidate troublesome opponents? Why bother with elections and debate? Why not just buy votes since the left does that through the clear expedience of pandering and promising more. The left has been inoculated against hidden sin being brought into the open by being pigs in broad daylight. So, it follows that elimination of their threat to the Republic comes through open, balanced and convincing debate...or...failing that, direct action.

Since debate has become something of a joke in our jaded society and the controlled media, we are left with precious little in the way of alternatives. We either preserve our identity and fight for it, or we take the low road and become our enemies.

So, IMO, Franks is just another poor demented soul on a greased skid into hell. Craig, however, is not only is a warped, lying and tormented soul, but also betrayed higher ideals by put a hole in conservative credibility wider than the ice berg hole in the Titanic. In my book, his is the far, far worse evil. Better that a millstone was tied around his neck...
