One factor is that a Barney Frank could not be blackmailed, at least about his sexual orientation. An ostensibly conservative lawmaker such as Craig is MUCH more susceptible to being blackmailed. I’d rather have a lawmaker less susceptible to blackmail, all other things being the same.
I’d rather have a openly gay tax cutting RKBA representative than a straight family man who wants to raise taxes and take guns.
