A 9-year-old boy was accused yesterday of repeatedly beating a toddler in the head at a day care center being run in a private home in Woodbridge, N.J., eventually causing his death, the authorities said. The toddler, Tahir Francis of Carteret, who was 11 months old, suffered multiple skull fractures and died last Thursday while undergoing brain surgery, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office. The cause of death was blunt-force trauma to the head, the medical examiner has ruled.

The 9-year-old, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with the juvenile equivalent of aggravated manslaughter, the prosecutor’s office said. He appeared in court yesterday and was placed under house arrest under his parents’ supervision. Because of his age, the case will be handled in family court.

Beverly Bryant, 64, who ran the day care center in the basement of her Carver Avenue home, was charged yesterday with endangering the welfare of a child. She pleaded not guilty in Middlesex County Superior Court and was released on her own recognizance. On condition of her release she was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under 16 and to cease operation of the day care center indefinitely, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

If convicted, Ms. Bryant, who has been a licensed day care provider in the state since 1995, could face 5 to 10 years in prison, the prosecutor’s office said. According to the prosecutor’s office, shortly before 1 p.m. last Thursday, Ms. Bryant had left the five children in her care alone at some point when the 9-year-old attacked Tahir. Christian Fleming, a lawyer for Ms. Bryant, gave his client’s version of the events that afternoon.

...it’s obvious!!
The great state of New Jersey needs MORE money to take more control over licensed day care centers. Just like it needed to hire MORE inept deyfus (sp) workers when starved kids were discovered after years of neglect. It found that one supervisor for three workers didn’t work out, because the supervisors could’nt supervise three workers who did’nt do their jobs....the answer more money to hire more people who don’t do their jobs....(that liberal democratic voting block you know), probably the same workers who belong to some union who’s president was Gov.Corzine’s lover and sponged a couple of million dollars off of......yeah the same Governor who negociated said contract with said union in said state...yeah that Governor.

(please excuse the spelling, I can’t spell worth a **** when pi$$ed)

This is very sad - but there has to be more to the story. Aside from the obvious, was there something wrong with this 9 yr. old. A kid that old doesn’t just do something like that one day out of the blue.

I’m remembering that movie - The Bad Seed.
