Reid Bends

Iraq: The Senate's top Democrat has softened his strategy in the wake of Iraq's undeniable military and political progress. It's a blow for anti-war forces that the Petraeus report later this month is sure to compound.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has backed down from demands for a withdrawal of our troops in Iraq by next spring.

Selling voters on cut and run was always tough, but now a new UPI/Zogby Poll finds that 54% of Americans believe the Iraq war is not lost.

Beyond the achievements of our forces, the public is obviously impressed that Iraq's five top political leaders have agreed on a series of compromises, including oil wealth distribution and provincial elections.

Since Reid and other Democratic leaders now know that outright surrender is out, they've decided to try for whatever they can get. "I don't think we have to think that our way is the only way," Reid told the Washington Post, making it clear he now seeks an anti-war alliance with shaky Republicans.

The libs are too far gone with their investment in defeat in Iraq. If they turn now, they are dead meat, to be shown as the lying, treasonous losers that they are.

No, they will keep up the attack on the war. My take, anyway.

The SOB is not completely stupid. He can read the polls. The moonbats may be itching for political suicide but not all of the Democrats want to go over the cliff with them. Look at Brian Baird. The truth is beginning to hit home with elected Democrats.

I guess he and his fellow surrendercrats got an earfull over the summer break. The big question, is how will Hill and Barak deal with this? They both voted to DEFUND the troops the last opportunity they had; it will be fun to watch them and their poodles in the media spin this one.

OT: I’m watching CNN (I know, I know) but the Woffie substitute host is going to show the UAV video that is evidence in support of the Haditha marines. Yes, this on CNN. Shocking.

With things going the way they are now, how many Republicans will be willing to give Reid his "something that you think you would like to do, that accomplishes some or all of what I want to do" —

Plenty of these tits on a boar hog, apparently.

Wow. I thought I'd never see this headline.

He knows damned well the surge is working, he just won't admit it because of a politically-motivated "craze for defeat", to use the author's words. Perhaps now he is seeing that members of his party are starting to turn away and realize the inevitable truth that the troops ARE making progress. If he were to contine his stauch anti-war politics, he knows that 1.) he won't have the entire support of his party, and 2.) Americans are beginning to realize that the war isn't lost, so he'll capitulate a bit to make it look like he's going along with that. It's all a political move, really. Just like everything else that goes on in Congress.

"...how will Hill and Barak deal with this? They both voted to DEFUND the troops the last opportunity they had;..."

They will simply say that they knew the measure wouldn't pass, and that their votes were merely symbolic. And the media (and many Republicans) will give them a pass.

You’re right...and we need to hold their feet to the fire! Hillary and Obama are going to have to start backpedaling, fast, but then the left will scream louder...they are in a real jam.

Why don't Reid and Pelosi just resign now and save themselves the trouble later?

“Reid bends” = Reid is a weak reed

He’s all posturing and bluster, doing his best to make us lose this war, but he’s weak, pitifully weak.

I agree with your sentiments, but I’ve seen the Dems get away with so much for so long that I really don’t have any confidence that they will be held accountable.

The system that polices the government and our elected officials has become corrupt, and too many citizens have given up, thinking that there is really nothing that they can do to change the way things are in Washington DC.

The Democrats, aided by the wealthy liberal elite and the socialist minded media, have, over time, infiltrated every facet of society.

They started with the unions, the public education systems, the courts, and the media, slowly spreading their politically correct socialist thinking into the federal, state and local governments. They’re currently infiltrating the Republican Party, and judging by the number of RINO’s, I’d say they’re having considerable success.

It’s going to take a long, long time to reverse all of the damage that liberal Democrats have inflicted on America. If we lose the White House in 2008, we are in for some really bed times. I hope we can pick a good, old fashioned, conservative Republican, and that we can all come together to defeat the Democrats and their socialist plans.

Keep praying, and keep spreading the truth to as many as will listen. Our future, and our children’s future, depends on it.
