Man arrested for stealing bridge (5-meter span near Moscow)

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian police have detained a 45-year-old municipal worker for stealing a bridge.

The 5-meter span metal bridge disappeared from a river crossing in the Ryazan region, east of Moscow. Police said they tracked it down to the man, who had used his work truck to remove it and then chopped it up and sold it for scrap.

In a statement, Ryazan region police called it "the bulkiest theft of the year."

Close, but no the winner. A few years ago, a road crew showed up with orange trucks, barricades and even extra guys standing around leaning on shovels and began to tear up a cobblestone road in England. Neighbors, so glad to be getting a new road even took them tea and cookies.

They tore up the road, loaded all the copper cobbletsones into dumptrucks and dissappeared.

A few years ago, the Army Corp of Engineers blew up the bridge going across the lake, down the road from where my mother lives, supposively because it was not heavily used, was very old, and the authorities did not want to replace it.

Oops, they blew up the wrong bridge. It was supposed to be another bridge a few miles away.

My mother now lives on a dead end street.
