RACINE (WI) — At least one veterans organization might benefit from a raffle of an semiautomatic AK-47 rifle being held during September at a Racine gun store.
Officials from both Wounded Warriors and Racine’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1391 have expressed interest in being the beneficiary in the raffle being held by Drop Zone Surplus N’ Guns Store, 2501 Douglas Ave., according to the store owner.
“I just want the money to go to the guys (who) need it. That is why I am donating the firearm and doing the tickets myself,” said store owner Terry Jackson, who said that Wounded Warriors is an organization that helps veterans who have lost limbs during battle and the families of soldiers who lost their lives in war.
Raffle tickets will be $10 each. The winning ticket will be drawn randomly at the store at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1. Tickets will be limited to two per person. The raffle will be limited to 500 tickets.
“I’ve probably had 70 people come in (to the store) asking when they can get their tickets,” Jackson said. “People all over the state are e-mailing me, asking me when they could buy a ticket.”
An AK-47 semiautomatic weapon typically goes for about $500 in Jackson’s store.
Racine Alderman Pete Karas is a gun-control advocate. He is the board president of the Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort Educational Fund, a grass-roots organization dedicated to reducing gun violence.
[flash] “I don’t understand how offering and soliciting to raffle off an AK-47, which is in effect an assault weapon, by a business in Racine is being a good corporate (resident),” he said. “We have no need for yet another assault weapon on the streets of Racine.”
Jackson said his wife was approached by a woman in a parking lot who opposed the raffling of the rifle.
“The woman said, ‘You’re that gun guy’s wife,’ ” Jackson said. “She just started screaming at her ... made the baby cry that my wife was holding onto ... like I’m standing on the corner handing (guns) out.”
The winner must be 18 years old and must pass an FBI background check prior to taking possession of the rifle. If the winner fails the background check, another winning ticket will be drawn.

Ya know, if it is semi-automatic, then it ain’t an AK-47. By definition, an AK is selective fire.
Great idea, but why not offer one of OUR weapons instead of the enemies? I’d take my M-16 any day over an AK.

I bought a .45 ACP for tractorman jr. from Jackson a couple of weeks ago.
He’s a good guy who supports our second amendment rights.
He’s got a sign in his front window that says “ The owner and employees of this store are armed. If you don’t like that, don’t come in”.

Have at it. I have spent over 20 years trusting my life to an M-16/M-4. The AK and variants thereof are reliable but they are still 100m pieces of crap.
This is a good illustration of the psychology of anti-gun nuts. They have a violent streak running through their withered souls, and they think that everyone else does too so they can't be trusted with guns.

If it isn't full automatic, it isn't an assault weapon either. Knowledge of firearms is disallowed in congress, the judiciary, and in the media.
can i get a ticket from out of state? if i win, he can ship the gun to a store near me and i can pick it up, right? as long as they have FFL numbers right? i’ll pay shipping.

Well, technically yes, but calling it an "AK-47-derived semi-automatic Kalashnikov carbine in caliber 7.62x39" is rather cumbersome.

Not necessarily. Legally home built semi auto’s assembled from AK parts kits are considered AK-47s. So are some of the weapons available from outfits such as Century Arms, etc. which are built on new semi receivers and surplus AK 47 parts kits. You are correct, however, if you are talking about completely newly manufactured weapons.
